Not Crap. Hearing it for the first time (Thermos and Robot World) after being a Gordons fan. Production is a little irritating, bass is a little "wizzly" but overall GREAT!

Production on Thermos is a little weird but I LOVE the production on Robot World, Vortura and WAMMO.

The last few records are cool too... Solar 3 and the Proton EP.

I got "Wammo" a couple months ago, and loved it. Ran across a copy of "Vortura" yesterday, and I think it's even better. I don't think it's too far off to compare some of their stuff to My Bloody Valentine and some other bands like that, but there's a toughness in the playing that sets it apart from that genre, I think. It's really unique.

I don't usually do the "Ask Shellac" thing, but I'm wondering if you guys have ever invited them to play an ATP. I know Steve's a fan, and I'd be psyched to see them play out again.

Robot World is still my favourite.

Also, asking them to play ATP or something would be a great idea, except that you really can't put any other bands after them, because Bailter Space were incredibly loud live, so much so that other bands I saw them with sounded REALLY far away afterwards.

Guitar tones on Robot World are unreal. Really really thick, yet clear.

I definitely hear the influence MBV had on this band. But they took it in a rare direction in comparison to other snorefest MBV clones. They seem focused on the volume and mass of the guitar tone without getting all pussy about it and drowning shit in reverb. And it's minimal pop underneath, filtered through really amazing layers of distortion.

At one stage last year (maybe 2006) it looked like they might be getting back together to do another album. They created a myspace and added some new music. There was also a rumour of playing live/touring. They also got a .com site running (not working any more). I don’t know what happened to any of that – it was all looking good. I’d really love to see them play again.

Quite digital, isn't it?

But BS were futuristic group so I can get over it easier than with pastoral pop of Bats' Law of Things. Both albums were recorded roughly in the same time by same people - Writhe Studios/Roughan/McLachlan. I didn't care so much about the aspect of recording when I was younger but I clearly remember being bummed about bizarre sounding Bats.

Month ago I sold few of my Tall Dwarfs CDs and decided to listen to other NZ stuff I have at home including Thermos.

Fish Eye is still exciting.
