I do know that the box set will include a Mike Watt remix that was delivered too late to be included on "Rhythms, Resolutions & Clusters." This remix has a funny story attached to it which was relayed by one Tortoise to Mr. Jay Ryan. I don't think I'd do the story justice...but maybe Jay can try.

Thanks for your input j_harvey, it's nice to see someone takes things seriously around here.

I give them a not crap for all the awesome live shows I have seen them do over the years. Of the probably 25 times I have seen them, a few have been just top notch intense phenomenal. Only a few times have they been boring, it's usually when there is an overabundance of cha cha shakers being utilized by the band.
I have a group of old high school friends I only see when we go see Tortoise together, everyone is married and have jobs and whatnot but we always all drop everything to go to the Tortoise shows and hang out. That's good shit.
Plus I got a lot of cash for all my Tortoise records when I stopped giving a shit about records.
Their records have sucked for a long time now. The first two are 75% good each, the rest is pretty much bullshit.

Also, the existence of Jaga Jazzist renders Tortoise irrelevant. Jaga Jazzist do the same thing, but far better, far more interestingly and importantly they BRING THE ROCK live.

CRAP.

I don't know what shows you saw, but the two times I saw Tortoise, they were phenomenal. one was outside in a light rain. impeccable live show.

It was my great pleasure to see Tortoise last summer. They were phenomenal! In the course of screaming for a 2nd encore myself and some friends accidentally smashed the beer bottles we were "clinking" together. Shards of brown glass and Pilsner all over the pile of man-purses the horn-rimmed indie kids had set next to the monitors. This resulted in a mass exodus of haughty, muttering web designer-types as they snatched up their purses and retreated from the stage. A very Marsupialized kind of moment, I'd guess.

And to repeat Faiz's point: Standards remains awesome. So too, the self-titled. Them's my favourites. Fishtank allbum with The Ex also good.
