GIANT CAVEAT as that I've never read the book, but I kinda think I loved Noah Baumbach's adaptation of WHITE NOISE. The whole Airborne Toxic Event midsection turns into National Lampoon's Toxic Family Vacation which IMO is fucking great and hilarious.

Kinda loses it a bit in the end section but the credits sequence is great.

Lots of Godard references, Weekend and Tout-Va-Bien especially, which I didn't expect for a $100M Netflix movie.

The Menu was one of the worst things I've seen in a long time. And I was prepared to maybe dig it. But ugh, so glaringly obvious. The soundtrack and broad strokes also made it seem like it had been devised in a teenager's creative-writing class. As if it were adapted from a really bad play or something. Slick visuals, clunky social commentary that rarely connected, and The Queen's Gambit girl could not mask a core of molten crap.

Had to turn off Glass Onion after 15 minutes. The entire tone of that thing was just grating. Were they going for Wes Anderson meets Disney Marvel or some such nonsense?

Something I did really like? Drive My Car, particularly the second half. Said so much more w/o trying 1/100th as hard. Decent film.

The Banshees of Inisherin is slow, but contains some laughs therein.

Looking for recommendations, I just reread the last few pages. Nothing can get universal PRF acclaim. I kind of like that.

They're doing a Kurosawa season here at the moment. I saw High and Low again and it still absolutely rips.

I watched Tàr last night. Really interesting movie, on a number of levels. Gender, generational differences, power dynamics, and narcissism are all in play. There were a couple of moments that were a little far-fetched, but the movie does a great job of giving the viewer the feeling of watching a biopic about an actual person. Conductors can be such shitheads.
