Ugh I wish I didn't know that. I mean it seems like this would be a simple thing to add with minimal modding but really thinking it through, it's so much more frustrating knowing that they're a simple/cheap component. There are so so many "hot" mics that need a pad.Kniferide wrote: Tue May 23, 2023 1:43 pm Heck yeah on pads! It's like the cheapest thing to add and sooo often skipped.
Nice! When I get back in town I’m planning to wire one of these up. Found a transistor set I forgot I got from a Small Bear a while back.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue May 23, 2023 4:02 pm Yeah a pad seems like a no brainer.
MkII Bender for a good friender:
I like them in the classic configuration. For bias, even though its a pre-packaged set with bias resistors, i'd maybe still check and see if it needs to be tweaked. I work with the collector resistors on Q2 and Q3. I like to see ~0.15V on the collector of Q2, and the setup of Q2 will affect Q3, so I always try and get that sorted first. Then I shoot for ~8.5V on the collector of Q3. If you wanted to add a bias pot, the collector resistor for Q3 is what i'd replace with a pot.VaticanShotglass wrote: Sat Jun 03, 2023 5:35 pmNice! Any advice, tips, or tweaks? The transistor set is one of those pre-sorted things with the correctly biased resistors. Is it worth adding a bias knob or any other mods, or is this one pretty much good in its classic configuration?
Thanks! I’ll take that to heart (hopefully next week). That’s the sort of tip that comes with experience.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Mon Jun 05, 2023 9:55 amI like them in the classic configuration. A MkII bender isnt much more than a Fuzz Face with a gain stage added to the front, however the traditional bias is set much differently.VaticanShotglass wrote: Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:03 pmThanks! I did a germanium fuzz face a few years ago that turned out really nicely. I did a number of tweaks but the external bias pot is super useful on that one. As discussed above I suspect the tonebender benefits less so but it t might be nice to be able to fine tune it here and there.
curious about the Zero Resistor. is there a reason other than looks good to use it rather than a piece of wire? I've never really been sure why they exist. Books great BTWDr Tony Balls wrote: Thu Jun 08, 2023 2:18 pm My one thousandth guitar pedal is in the books!!! The aptly named 1E3 Boost celebrates this silly milestone with something truly not fancy at all. A nice, tasteful, utilitarian booster and line driver. Clean volume boost of up to 20 dB, nothing more. Got a limited number of them for the special price of $120 post paid. Get at me if interested.
