I don't see it as punishment or a hard choice. If you can carry a financial burden of student debt for years, or wander the fucking Sonora to find a better life, an injection is a nonissue. How the fuck did the right wing in this country go from drafting people to fight in Vietnam, to feeling victimized by getting pricked on the arm and wearing a mask? That is the civic duty that feels oppressive now?

If only because a relatively minuscule, but essential bit of civic duty is unfathomable to some. They probably feel like they're at war already, as does a 4 year old who refuses to go to the doctor because they hate getting a shot.
