I still think youre messing with us about this band Marsup. You want to get people to be like "Yeah...ummm...I guess I do like it, yeah, its not THAT bad...yeah I can see myself buying the cd maybe....oh whats $13 gone...Ill go get it right now", so just when everyone likes this band, you can start ripping into us immediately.

You every wonder what a cat is thinking? Like when the cat is terrified by the vacuum or obsessed with stealing pens off the desk or staring at a wall and yowling at nothing?

I can't imagine what is going through a cat's mind at times like that, and I'm deeply curious as to what kind of inner life a cat's mind can carry, but also I'm real glad I don't have a cat's mind. I' happy not to be terrified by the vacuum or obsessed with pens or staring at a wall screaming at nothing.

Well, I feel like that about people who like shit like this. What exactly can be rattling around in a head that would make somebody want to listen to bullshit like this, and even think it was good in some way. What the fuck? Really, pens? That's your thing, stealing pens?

Those tracks with the acoustic guitarist are pretty good. I think her voice is beautiful, even though the little "warble" mannerisms and the self-conscious attempts at improvisation/scat sometimes fall flat. She's obviously classically trained. She reminds me a bit of Billie Holiday or Louis Armstrong, though she is ultimately much less distinctive and nowhere near as obsessed with her craftsmanship.

I don't listen to the lyrics, which is probably for the best because what snippets I do hear sound pretty absurd. But most peoples' lyrics are absurd. Ever listen to Bob Dylan? This reminds me of his style, and that's not a compliment by any means. But I dig CocoRosie. They're not anything revolutionary, but I would gladly listen to this on the radio.

Can't you just as easily replace CocoRosie for 'cats'? I mean, I'm as curious about what CocoRosie is thinking just as much as Steve is curious about what a cat thinks when it's playing howl at the corner or eat the plastic.

I have seen enough 4 dudes in an indie rock band stand there and play standard indie rock music. For years and years I was ok with just that, but it failed me in the end. I spent years waiting for things in that world to loosen up a bit, for things to kick in and get interesting. For those people to stop being so fucking uptight and scared to try anything other than what's acceptable to do in an indie rock band. For those people to become fun to be around and not all weird and self conscious. It never happened, It just got even more compressed and boring.
I like the silly chicks making weird drug music better now.
Maybe with Cocorosie having done such ridiculous things, maybe there will be other people willing to take a chance and try something a little off the map and realize it's not the end of the world if some person thinks you are stupid or what you are doing is laughable. It doesn't bother them, obviously. They get shit on constantly by everyone and they know it. They don't care, they do what makes them laugh and be happy. This is what they told me when I spoke to them and I really admired that. I think that's pretty fucking close to the essence of 'cool' if you ask me.
On top of it, I really really like their songs.

Walking around Paris one day...entered a mall.
The whole complex was perfume-drenched !
There's a big TV screen showing the ads from that perfume.
It's not the ads but the background music of the ads that grabbed me !
The ads was played again & again & again & again....

Asked the promoter what's the name of the music, said he didn't know.

Asked another promoter, she also didn't know. This promoter was so fucking beautiful & had nice boobs !

I demanded to see the supervisor.
The supervisor came & I asked the same question...the name of the music being played on the ads.

He went off & came back 5 minutes later.
Said, a band called CocoRosie.
I said thank you.
No, I didn't buy the perfume.

Looked for a music shop & asked for CocoRosie.
They didn't have it.

The music kept on playing in my heads for days !!!!!!!!
I could grow fucking crazy.

1 week later, I finally found the CD (albeit test-listened just to find that song !)

See, I never put up with that sort of crap. At risk of mis-analyzing your situation I would sugget that you lowered your musical standards based on frustration. If you had not tolerated such "indie" bullshit for so long you might be more critical of acts such as CacaRosie. I mean if you enjoy them fine, fine, but that should not be because they're not as bad as some "indie" junk rock.
