Two weeks ago, I was feeling nervous and petulant about having to wear what is known as a morning suit. My patient friend had to tie my rented cravat:

Eventually, I was tamed.

I don't think I'll ever go to a fancier event, and I was pretty honoured to be an usher for my good friend.

Jesus christ, who's your friend, Albert of Monaco?! That looks quite the shindig.

Let us see you.

There's a fair dollop of French aristocracy in there. I don't even want to think about how much it cost. The service was in a damn cathedral and the reception was in the second most visited chateau in France. I was pretty nervy about this do beforehand for a variety of reasons, muttering darkly about guillotines, but it ended up being mostly great. Most importantly, the couple seemed to be super-happy, and for all the cash thrown at this thing, they are essentially wonderful.

My personal highlight was my friend Juliette (whom I hadn't seen in almost two years) dragging my drunk form onto the dancefloor for the waltz, "Just so I could tell my grandmother that I danced the waltz at Château de Chambord". Considering neither of us had waltzed before and I was pretty leathered, we did well - onlookers advised that out of the majority of couples dancing who could not waltz, we made the best attempt. And I made sure I gave the show-off couple who could a good shoulder barge...

Let us see you.

Sparky. I want to go on vacation for three months where I get to live as you do.

Not only does it seem that you travel a bunch, you seem to sop up a well-rounded feel for the place you are in.

You also seem to be surrounded by swarthy drunken men frequently.

Gold stars.

Let us see you.

Sparky, I had no idea you were an international playboy.
I was wondering if i could borrow your private jet for the weekend?

Let us see you.

Yes - for all my complaining, I am a lucky sod sometimes. Put it down to fortune in having good and interesting friends.

I would post some of the photos from my friend Prashant's equally stupendous but very different Delhi wedding in February, except that my vanity prevents me, as I appear in the photos to have eaten a sweetshop.

Oh, why not, have to record the wearing of a turban:

If anyone wants to read a lot of air, I wrote a spiel about it - ask!

Nope mate, I'm just a scrounger. My savings are nil and I have been lucky to have a friend put me up cheap for the past month or so whilst I've been making enough to set myself adrift again for awhile.

Let us see you.

That is by far the least dignified and most dissolute wearing of a turban since a drunken Rudyard Kipling put one on his johnson and said, "Behold! Hunga Din!".

Let us see you.
