you are absolutely correct. I have a lady friend, she cycles every week after she got the 2nd shot.
The article I read quoted a doctor who guessed it was due to the "stress" of getting vaccinated. I'm sure she's just stressed out.
how can you know? maybe it's the vaxxx.

Hello,
I am an ICU nurse at a major hospital in SF. Our unit became the covid unit 18 months ago, and is still showing no signs of slowing. I thought i would offer my two cents regarding vaccination, based on my experiences here.

These days, we have two types of patients, and they are both as sick as they come. Most of our patients are unvaxxed - they are often young (30-50), have little to no significant medical history, and are just getting destroyed by delta. Most die a protracted, awful death, with a tube in every hole. Last year we saved many (though often with significant deficits), but since the delta surge, they just don’t get better. I’ve heard from their families (who still can’t visit them in their rooms) that they assumed youth would protect them, or that the virus is overhyped.

Our second group are vaccinated pts who are immunocompromised, mostly organ transplants for whom the vaccine offers little protection. These poor people have done everything right, lived like prisoners for the last 2 yrs, and now get to die anyway. It’s depressing.

The third group that is missing from this equation are all of the other patients that can’t get beds because we are so busy tending to the unvaccinated. Car crash? Too bad - maybe there’s a bed for you 100 miles away. Elective resection of your brain tumor? Sorry, we are otherwise occupied. This has led many of us to wish that the unvaxxed wouldn’t come to the hospital when they get sick. Why trust us now, and not when it counts?

I can’t convince people to get vaccinated. I do suspect that if I could show you what really happens to a sick covid, it may change your mind. It has changed many family members minds, watching their loved ones go like this. I wish people could learn from other peoples mistakes

I am a medical social worker at two very large hospitals that comprise what most people around the world refer to as a single clinic. We are on diversion every day. I have heard that we are already in the process of suspending elective surgery. One of the other social workers paid the unit I am presently on a visit and talked about her floor. It's a COVID floor. It's a grim picture. The people up there are all dying. We are one of the largest hospitals in the known universe and we are being stretched to our limits due to COVID - and this wave has just barely gotten started. We know it's going to get worse and I don't know what we're going to do. We are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

We can't discharge people because so many people need rehab and the SNFs that aren't on hold due to COVID or staffing (yet another shock wave from COVID) are all full. So we're sending a bazillion referrals out halfway across the state and still getting doors shut in our face every day. It's insane. We can't even find hospice beds so that people dying of not-COVID can die in peace.

The war in Viet Nam could be thought of as a battled of us vs them that should have brought us all together, but it didn't. Not surprised, though surprised, that the virus plays out in a similar way and along similar lines.

We have been in a Cold Civil war of varying reaches and intensity for years now, decades.

It's getting warm around the edges.

There are arguable geographic areas that might become locations where political conflict and violence spark, something more local than the pilgrimages to Portland or Seattle (and therefore potentially more nasty and desperate), but with some of the aspects of the clashes that have bedeviled those cities (magnets for trouble), but it is not easy to see how real sectionalism will take hold. Tensions are high and too many people think they are under attack (they are being blown up like balloons with such sentiments and concern).
More like Rwanda or Serbia where it was literally neighbor vs. neighbor

Mayo? I work mostly remotely now, but still have a place in Rochester. My job is non-clinical and is technically with the county gov't, but I also get paid by the clinic and the state.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I work in Rochester lest someone in a position of authority stumbles upon the PRF and decides to read everything I write on an internet music forum (even the stuff that's obviously for the lulz) as something to file away under "potential ammo for later" (not likely but you never know), however, I will say that learning the ropes of medical social work in the COVID times has been both an interesting and challenging experience.

I work as a union rep in health care and Covid has been a shitshow mostly because the Regional Health Authority here hasn't respected health and safety protocols, didn't provide proper PPE for frontline workers for months and months, etc. On Monday, a public health order took effect mandating vaccination or regular testing (every 48 hrs) for frontline health and education workers. A small, vocal minority of union members are anti-vax and anti-testing.

I work a lot with a gravel-voiced Unit Lead we'll call Debbie. Today we're talking to an anti-vax AND anti-testing health care worker on the phone who says her position is based on her religious views. We explain that she'll need a letter or some form of documentation from her faith organization to back this up. She says she doesn't have that, and her religious authority is JESUS. And Debbie says, "Well honey, Jesus don't write letters for workers." Been smiling about that all day.
