Haven't got the time/wherewithal to debate it, but along similar lines ^^^, I think vinyl is . . . a little overrated at this point.
Am saying this as a dude who's been collecting records--good ones--on and off since about the mid-nineties, and who's put out some releases on the format.
Yes, it can be swell, but it's not always markedly better, not to mention practical, especially if one moves around a bit.
I like vinyl, but don't consider it some kind of travesty to listen to CDs or digital files, or for that matter, to release music on these formats without an analog counterpart.
It's okay!

agreed. really cheap digital sounds better than really cheap analog. as you go up in price analog gets a lot better, while digital gets a little bit better. Not sure where the lines cross, but State of the art hi res digital right now is pretty amazing. I have lots of records and I love them and I want to play them and want them to sound good, so I am committed to my turntable analog setup, but plain old CDs can sound great through a modern DAC. And you cannot beat the convenience of streaming.

As someone who has recently starting buying records, I've only been after stuff I don't already have in any physical format.

Word. I continue to buy records on a steady basis. I love supporting artists and small businesses. Sometimes though, as I am filing through the bins at record stores, I look around a say to myself, "this is kinda fucking stupid." I buy records to listen to and I am happy to pay fair prices for good records, but I detest pointless deluxe reissues, Record Store Day, and the collector scene. I was watching some Pharaoh Sanders records on Discogs prior to his death, and checked a few days later after he died, and there were many more listings and the prices were jacked way up on his records.

I’ve almost started a digital vs analog thread a couple times today because of these posts, but I couldn’t think of a way to make it interesting.

I'd be interested in any discussion on it, especially super geeky discussions that go into a lot of technical detail.

Way too broad on its own, maybe narrow it down to a listener/collector standpoint, or from a recording standpoint, etc.
