Can't claim to be an aficionado of his career, but "666" is fantastic. Probably the only unabashedly prog concept album I can listen to without feeling the urge to run screaming for my Dead Kennedys LPs.

Saw Blade Runner at a local film festival this weekend. Daniel Pemberton, a huge fan of the soundtrack, introduced it. Such a fan, in fact, that he owns a CS-80. From his demonstration it appears to be virtually unusable for any purpose other than reproducing sounds from the film.

The opening of that film is sublime, and a substantial part of that is due to Vangelis. Bonus credit for The Four Horsemen, too.

Cosmos, man, Cosmos. That show utterly captivated nerdy, space-obsessed 9-year-old me, and VGs theme music was (and still is, to me) the sound of the infinte vastness of space. I never got to go into space like I hoped, but I did become a scientist. I guess that counts for something.

RIP

[O/T but since we're here]
There would be a certain irony in Elon being wiped out in a traffic accident with a Tesla whose owner who had believed Elon's hype about the Autopilot, but my fantasy scenario for Elon involves bankruptcy and prison for financial crimes. Everything he's involved with is shady as fuck. Tesla has 1% of the car market. How did its share price rise as high as ALL other manufacturers combined? No wonder Bill Gates shorted Tesla stock. If I was rich I would.

Remember Elon got all shitty about that too, and said if Bill Gates cared about the climate he'd support Elon? Elon can stop pretending to give two fucks about the climate now. His political leanings have been obvious for years. How very unsurprising to hear that his businesses have been accused of harbouring a culture of racism and misogyny.

Tesla is not going to replace 50% of the car industry, ever. Elon Musk's primary talent is pumping stocks.

I love “L’Enfant,” and the scenes in The Year of Living Dangerously set to it are—to borrow your word—sublime examples of the kind of choreography of images and music I live to see in movies.
