I'm currently reading a book that I somehow never read earlier: Paul Bowles's The Sheltering Sky.

This book was clearly written by a young man, for the edification of other young adults.

I find all the characters in this book to be insufferable. But I'm sort of okay with it. The book isn't badly written.

"Port" and "Kit" (female). The names of the main characters in this book are stupid.



Hey Angus, did you finish Bernhard's The Loser yet? I'm about halfway through...not sure what to make of it. I'm enjoying it though!
There are crispy fries waiting to come out of your oven: you just have to make them and put them there.

then you should check out the new DVD of henning carlsen's 1966 film Hunger. among the extras is a new 26 minute conversation between Paul Auster and Knut Hampsun' granddaughter. i snatched up this DVD the other week, but haven't had the time to actually sit down and watch it. but it looks very promising and, for what it's worth, the film-to-video transfer is top-notch.

Let It Come Down is much, much better--his best novel, I think. The Spider's House is quite good, too. But Bowles is best in the short form.

Yeah, I was mystified by a lot of the technical stuff, but it was still a great story about a fascinating life.

Give Correction a go, if you haven't.

Stay away from Gitta Honegger's "book" about him unless you have a thing for squalid analysis.

There was also released this year a collection of his poetry, work that preceded his novels and plays.
