I read a free excerpt at the time and didn't find any of it particularly scandalous. A singer who cares more about his clothes than singing? Yeah that's just life in bands. Call me when cartel members drop by the studio or something..

It was honestly pretty fun at the time when it was being trickled out post-by-post on the messageboard and I was reading it in real time and passing it around to my bandmates and housemates. I've never felt compelled to revisit it or buy the edited/revamped book version, but I do have some pleasant nostalgia for it. I think "freddy fingaz" still gets tossed at anyone I know who's fast at protools edits.

JHS Supreme (Univox Super Fuzz clone)

A while back I bought a Super Fuzz and (with the tone switch in the bassy position) it's the best bass fuzz I've ever used. I love it. I've used it on guitar, too, and just can't get a bad sound out of it. I've had a bunch of vintage fuzzes, and none of them are as flexible. I've never been able to play chords through an old fuzz without everything turning to mush, but the Super Fuzz seems to do everything well; lead, chords, bass. Both tone settings are distinct and useful.

My band is winding back up and shows will be on the horizon. I don't really want to haul the SF around to bars and stuff where it could be easily swiped, so I bought one of the JHS clones for a hundred bucks. It is supposedly a straight clone of a orange and blue/Superman SF with an added switch that puts a little twist on the circuit. I borrowed a Superman version from a friend before I bought my own, so I've checked out the circuit and I know what it sounds like. My SF is the earlier big box/rubber foot pad version. Light grey enclosure with dark grey foot pad and no balance trim pot on the board. The pedal I got sounds identical to the one I borrowed. The JHS Supreme is...pretty close. Sounds very similar, but lacking a smoothness to the bass. The SF sounds much more pleasing in the low end. It still feeds back, still super fuzzy, but the bass is a groove. The JHS is harsher and more aggressive with the mids more prominent. It will serve it's purpose just fine as a live fill in, but it doesn't totally capture the magic. Which honestly I am just fine with because the SF is magic and it's position has not been usurped.

Pedaltrain Novo 24.

You are good and all the pedals I want to fit do, and the power supply fits underneath. Lovely.

I passed up on one of those a couple years back. Still kicking myself. Would drag a whole Pelican Rack around just for that unit and a tray of various rodents underneath.

You could still get a Deucetone!
