One other thing about that particular amp...

Was a fan of the guitar sounds on the Prescott Curlywolf record Six Ways To Sunday. A friend's band had to buy this particular amp when a head went down on tour. Said they settled on it because they knew the guy's in Prescott Curlywolf, and it was the amp that Rob used.

It is a great sounding amp.

..ordering some nylon tip drum sticks.

I haven't tried them since I was a teenager. The tips would break off pretty fast, but I also hit like a dipshit back then. I think I would have better luck now, but is it even a worthwhile pursuit? Additional clarity for ride 'dinging' is appealing..

(could have been a C/NC thread but figured it would only get about 3 replies)

I haven't tried nylon tips in ages either. I guess I'm pro-wood because of the "natural" aspect, but that's a dumb stance for me to take when I think about it.

I bet you could get better "dinging" clarity switch to a stick that has a differently-shaped tip than you would with a nylon tip. Maybe something to consider?

If you're doing finesse drumming and doing a lot of nuanced dynamics on the cymbals where you really want that clarity, you might like it but then feel let down when you are hitting the drums themselves.

IDK, I've never ever once heard any recorded material and felt like "you know what this needs is more cymbal cutting through"

Intriguing point (no pun intended). I've been a Vic Firth loyalist (whose tip is somewhere between a bullet and penis head) for reasons I don't even remember. Is it time I try Pro Mark, or possibly something else?

The difference will really only be perceived in ride dings and possibly toms, as everything else (including crashing) is hit with the side of the stick.
Garth wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:13 am just want to say though that talking you out of a pair of $10-$15 drumsticks is not something I'm going to climb a hill on. It's not like a $3k guitar or drumset or amp or anything. Give 'em a go and when the tips eventually fly off you're not out all that much.
It was an algorithm-led impulse, and I generally order a few to make shipping worthwhile. I searched for my normal trusty pair and the first result was the same thing but with nylon tips. I thought.. y'know I've never really tried those as an adult. Definitely don't need them, and the first time the tip breaks I'm gonna be pissed.

If I had a good drum shop within 5 miles I'd just go try some there of course..

Possibly, but I also think Vic Firth may have some tip options available on the same stick sizes to experiment with. I'm pretty sure that Pro-Mark does this (or rather, that's what their signature line is all about, mixing and matching various elements.)
