there are solos on this record that sound like someone trying to drive a chisel through the core of the fucking planet - i've always assumed it's peter cosey, but i have no idea.
Peter Cosey's playing with Miles is incredible, incredible stuff. He seems underappreciated as a player, or maybe a "player's player" (which can be the same thing)

yes that is pete, and yes it is apex predator activity
there's a spot in Prelude Pt 1 on Agharta that is, literally, the greatest electric guitar playing I have ever heard in my life
insane post-hendrix wah strangulation that hits about five or six peaks in a row, unbelievable, absolutely blew my mind the first time i heard it
he does many other, only marginally less awe-inspiring things on the other japan recs

Yeah! Pretty distinctive use of wah too, way more heel down than most. (solo around 5 min mark)

The new Mogwai album.
Man, I'm trying here, and I kinda couldn't be a bigger fan, but this is really uninspired all throughout. On like listen five and it really is a sleepy, unfun album. Loved the last two a lot. Oh well.

I had an earworm and I couldn't quite figure out what it was. Some baritone singing about man feelings in aluminum beard way, but with Rhodes-tingled part with jazzier chords. I racked my brain and finally found it. T'was Tell Brightmoor by The Dress Circle. PRF band, but I can't remember who were in it.
Anyways, a great record!
