You're going to claim that this video/"joke" isn't sexist/homophobic/transphobic, and if you're as stupid as I'd like to think you are then maybe you're unaware of your own implicit bias, but I'm probably being optimistic and you probably did it intentionally. Sure you left yourself enough plausible deniability, which seems to be the popular method of les méchants du jour. But we see you. Everything about you is flimsy and translucent; you have the personality of a booger-streaked window.
Maybe you're right, but I didn't read it that way. I thought the gag (which wasn't actually funny) was about the small and ineffectual pretending to be fierce. Like it could be replaced by a lion cub puffing up and trying to roar.

Either way there is a thing someone recently called left wing larping. I think a lot of conversation around here has centered on theoretical violence. There has been an urge to defend the idea of violence rhetorically, which is very different from committing an actual act of violence.

I withhold ridicule because anyone invested in changing our terrible political situation is an ally. More importantly, as others have alluded, our trans and queer friends are doing something courageous and radical by simply being themselves while our culture is regressing.

In his day for Alinsky it was “cut your hair, shave your beard and put on a tie” then go out and be incredibly visible, all the time.
My suggestion is for massive protests where everyone wears as few clothes as possible. Optics, and because you can't conceal a weapon under a bikini top, mini, tight tees, bike shorts, etc...

...stole that idea from Bolsonaro.

Also optically speaking, we don't want people to look like businessmen or businesswomen.

you read me right. i am firmly an ally too. if i wanted my skinny queer friends to get beat up, i'd encourage them to commit violence.

if i want them to survive, i'll give them love.

Ha. Well, we’ll have to disagree. But there’s room for everyone. Even people that don’t feel as strongly about issues I care about or tuck their tee shirts into their pants.

Just dropping by this thread to point out that the right largely gotten its way in America not via violence, but thru policy that was slowly, surely, and methodically devised in the second half of the 1970s and then enacted starting w/Reagan, but way ramped up under W and Trump and on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley.

When the right resorts to dumb acts of violence (Jan. 6, blowing up abortion clinics), it tends to fail at its larger goals.

I find the talk of such things (particularly post-Mangione) on the left to be juvenile at worst, performative in the middle, and pointless at best. The political equivalent of Dry January or something. I get why it's a tempting trap to fall into if you feel hopeless. But we are no longer living in a time in which literal acts of violence make much difference in the scheme of things (ie the long game) unless you're fighting a very clear and organized war that has tanks and aircraft and shit. And even then, much of what decides the outcome has as much if not more to do w/policy and resources.

Leader of Fringe Political Party Advocates Lynching to Stop LGBTQ+ Pride Event

The consensus of Americans for centuries was that lynching, when done correctly, is both completely lawful and appropriate. They understood that lynch law is embedded in the American legal tradition, and there’s no legislature, no executive and no judiciary that could ever change that.

Yeah, sure, it's just some maniacal leader of a fringe political movement encouraging violence towards LGBTQ+ Americans. No one in their right mind would ever entertain such thoughts - certainly not any member of the numerous fringe white supremacist gangs hanging banners from overpasses, intimidating libraries, infiltrating police organizations, the secretary of defense, and so on and so forth. It's not like those who hold *less* noxious viewpoints are drafting legislation or sauntering around the Capitol intimidating trans US reps or anything like that.

It's OK, MLK would have just taken it. The last thing you'd want to do is arm and protect yourself, that looks bad and makes white liberals feel uncomfy. Nobody ever met their policy goals while still living.
