I genuinely appreciate this! But I disagree with your perspective that the violence I am thinking of is hypothetical. Just because it hasn't happened to me doesn't mean it isn't happening to someone else.

I fought a guy for attacking his gf/partner on a public bus, in addition to accosting some asshole for kicking a homeless woman's shoes onto train tracks (he ran away), and stopping the harassment of a lesbian couple on a bus by interjecting myself into the situation. I don't know how to respond to your post. Yes, I think fighting alongside me counts as having my back. I certainly wouldn't ask a pacifist to take a beating for me, nor would I expect one to interject themself into a situation that calls for violence.

I realize I jumped your shit here, and I'm sorry about that. This topic has been on my mind a bunch (thread) and I attributed something to you that was unfair. I'm sorry about that also.

Thinking about shit like this makes me jumpy and prone to drinking. I promise to not post tonight. :)

Fighting the urge myself not to take a walk down to the bodega for some giggle juice. Post away! And no worries about being jumpy; I'm a bag of anxiety and waiting for the chance to unpack it. I get it, and apologize for not being clear or talking past you.

I’m getting beyond tired of having to rebut shit like “the right has largely gotten its way without violence”. That’s absolute bullshit—the state itself was built using the violence of genocide and slavery, capitalism is enforced via violence, when the right passes laws against us they are enforced via violence. If a group of people wipe out everyone in an area and over the course of a few hundreds of years control resources and you have to bend to their will to access them or starve, how is that not violence?

Regardless of whether it’s strategic or not to use various kinds in various situations, if I can get through to anyone here about anything, it’s that violence is everywhere, and just because states have monopolies on it doesn’t mean that what they are doing isn’t violence. I’d argue it’s far more violent what they’ve been doing to my community (hundreds of us suffering and subject to abuse and 8 of my own friends dead over the last several years from systemic oppression restricting access to the resources they needed), let alone the violence they’ve done to other marginalized people inside (just yesterday a local Mexican restaurant was raided by ICE and at least three workers abducted) and outside the country than anything that could be done to one of them.

There are already plans to discontinue federal funding (including Medicaid) to pay for Prep, an absolutely lifesaving HIV prevention drug that has contributed to an incredible decrease in hiv and aids cases. This is violence on a massive scale directed at people due to their gender and sexual orientation. I want to fucking cry at what they’re doing to us, and the last thing I want to hear is about how this isn’t violence. I don’t know how to get anyone who hasn’t experienced this to understand it but when you’re the target it’s plain as fucking day what it is. And people have been pointing this out for decades and it’s exhausting to keep having to and it ignored

Op also said that when you look at the overhead picture (from Reagan on), omitting the stupid attempts at violence like J6 and clinic bombings, the RNC has run a very tight ground game. I think that's an astute observations related to the right's use of law.

And like, I’ve been fucking shot at by the police, i’ve watched people dragged away with their faces covered in blood, I’ve relived this in therapy and i’ve had involuntary muscle spasms for almost five years now from ptsd. they literally used physical violence against me and my loved ones, and even when they don’t use it it’s because their orders are backed up with the *threat* of violence and so people comply in advance. To say they’ve got power without violence is fucking beyond insulting and ignorant
