wow, this thread was brought back after almost a year in the boneyard. And the couch I bought around that time (not from Ikea, but Eurway) is not looking so good. my little girl is 3 1/2 and she has spilled various fruit juices and soups all over it. also it is in the furthest room in the house from her bedroom, so often times i will give her mother a good rogering on it when we don't want to wake her. basically the couch looks like we have all been dragging our bare asses over it for the past year, while eating barbecue or something. perhaps we should just cover it with a dark colored sheet, as there is no Ikea in town.

I stayed with a lad in Sweden and took the piss that he had an Ikea catalogue on his coffee table. I didn't realise that they just get them through the door over there and everything is a hell of a lot cheaper than anywhere else in the world.

I like the design of most of it. Solid and simple. Reminds me of classic Japanese design, which I like.

But so was the Shaker's stuff, and they weren't a transnational corporation.

Crap.

I don't understand this in this context. You made fun of him?

I did.

I'll put this into more context. I was in sweden to visit my friend in Prison, who got nicked during the EU demonstrations in Gothenburg in 2002. I was staying with one of the solidarity group that were looking after all the detainees. Quite ardent anti-capitalist folk. So it was funny to find an Ikea catalogue on his coffee table.

Problems experienced with Ikea this week:

1. Did not have item in stock in store, but in a warehouse located about 15 miles from store

2. Charged £31.50 to deliver one sofa to my flat which is located 10 miles away from store. Plus, delivery slot was from 7 to 7.

3. Cancelled my delivery order and made me waste a day off work waiting for delivery.

4. Failed to call back within the 24 hour callback period for dealing with a complaint.

5. Sofa arrives and one of the screw holes is about 1 inch in the wrong place meaning I will have to borrow a drill and drill my own hole.

6. Fucking ABBA on the while you wait telephone music.

haven't really had any problems with their stuff - went on a major ikea run when i moved to chicago a few years ago. it's all held up ok, though one of the bookshelves is slowly losing its backpiece. that's ok; my back is fucked up after going through several moves too.

the workhorses are the two giant tables in my studio - one holds my keyboard and all of the video junk and cables (and cookie monster pianos), the other holds speakers and monitors and external drives and such. neither one has even started to buckle or hesitate.

not crap, though getting everything home from the suburbs in a vw beetle is a horrendous comedy.
