brad, i think you misunderstand me. i SINCERELY want to congratulate the whitesox. and their fans, including you! i might be wrong about the whole economy thing. i think i was thinking more along the lines of the superbowl and how it helps cities. probably mainly because the superbowl brings in more out of towners and it lasts all week long.

I'm a sound tech for a living and touring right now. I was practically in Siberia when they clinched. The tour I'm on had a day off in Montreal, where I had to walk 45 minutes to the nearest place showing the game. I had typed "sports bar Montreal" into Google and this was the closest place to where I was that assured me that they'd be showing it. I got there and it wasn't a bar at all, but a cafe. Yes, a sports cafe, with the game on 4 of their 5 televisions. I drank coffee and watched the Sox clinch amongst a changing cast of people who couldn't have cared less; readers, studying folks, couples. No more than 10 seconds after Konerko fielded the final out the old man in charge of cleaning the place asked me in French, "Is it over? Can I turn it off now?" I saw only the early beginnings of the piling on and jumping around that I can only assume took place around the mound in Anaheim.

again, congratulations white sox. your world series
games will bring a great boost to the chicago economy.

Walter, you were doing such a good job making me believe that you were not a troll, but some real dickhead who makes peoples skin crawl. You had me going for a while. But you finally spoiled it. This is your most transparent quote I've read - although it's still pretty good for a troll. I would have left the Chicago economy statement out and stuck solely with the dis on the announcers that you know for a fact many forum members respect - even non-Sox fans. The boost to the economy thing tipped it. You have done your homework, but this post was done in haste. It was a good run, Walter, a good run.

i’m definitely not a troll on this board and have many people that will attest to this.

as for the announcers, i had no idea that people on this board feel strongly for them. the anaheim and chicago feed were on back to back channels so anytime something questionable happened, i’d flip back and forth between the channels to see the different angles. and, i have to say, the sox announcers were pretty overzealous with their take on things. maybe it had more to do with comparing a california announcer to a chicago announcer. probably like comparing palm trees to oaks. no offense intended.
