horsewhip wrote:Okay. A lot of the bands mentioned on this thread are really good, but seriously, who the fuck on this board has NOT heard of The Melvins, Neurosis, or Helmet? Come ooooooooooon! Give me a fucking breeeeeeeaak!

Let me run down my MP3 player and list some awesome records from the last five years that aren't by Shellac:

A-Frames "Black Forest"
Agoraphobic Nosebleed "Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope"
Akimbo "City Of The Stars"
Baseball Furies "Greater Than Ever"
Black Cross "Art Offensive" and "Widows, Bloody Widows"
The Blind Shake "Rizzograph"
Breather Resist "Charmer"
Call Me Lightning "The Trouble We're In"
Coliseum S/T
Dirtbombs "Dangerous Magical Noise"
Doomriders "Black Thunder"
Federation X "X-Patriot"
Fleshies "Kill The Dreamer's Dream" and "The Sicilian"
Japanther "Wolfenswan"
JR Ewing "Ride Paranoia" (Avoid the new one.)
Knockout Pills "1+1 = ATE"
Pig Destroyer "Terrifyer"
Planes Mistaken For Stars "Up In Them Guts"
Racetrack "City Lights" (Face melting power-pop.)
Toys That Kill "Control The Sun"
USS Horsewhip "Wants You Dead" (Blatant self-promotion.)
Wrangler Brutes "zulu"

Damn Horsewhip, quite a few Louisville albums in there, and the funny thing is, they all share the same members. I definitely second Black Cross, this band fucking rules.

1.6 Band (DC)
Bearclaw (IL)
Hose.Got.Cable (VA)
Three Second Kiss (Italia)
Wino (KY)
Lords (KY)

Ha, I always see Jonathan Cummings around here in Montreal, because I think Bionic is based out of here. When youre channeling ZZ top through your facial hair, well, its really hard to miss you.

How do you know about this middling Canadian rock band?

I was a big fan of Doughboys as a teenager; Jonathan Cummins (of Bionic) was in Doughboys...

I think of Bionic as a more succesful version of QOTSA. It's not rocket surgery, but it's good for cleaning the ears!

Yeah. I've been listening to a lot of that stuff. It started with the Breather Resist record. And then I found out that there were 37984729873 bands with the same members. Naturally, I had to check them all out.

Hell yes.

I saw 'em live once, just before Bass Wolf died. It was loud enough to liquefy your skeleton, and Guitar Wolf played a solo while crowdsurfing.
