burun wrote:The great bargains of my life were my Travis Beans, less than $500 combined. One's a 500, one's a 1000S. The Standard was deemed "too feminine" for the wussy-jazz guy who owned it previously, due to its rosy red finish. Since I possess the double-X chromesome set, he sold it to me cheap because "It looks cute on you", as if it were a freakin' dress or something.
His loss.

If you somehow somewhen get the idea that the guitar looks to masculine, just write me a mail.

What an idiot...

Altec "Lido" speakers with 755 drivers $10pr.
MD421 U5 w/stand and cable $60
'63 Fender P-bass w/72 neck $220
Thomas Organ Crybaby Fuzz/wah/volume mint $10
Sear Silvertone 1282 combo $30
DeltaLab Effectron Jr. $15
Slingerland Radio King Beavertail 20" BD $35
'68 Silverface Bassman even trade for Crate BX-40

That's all from one local fleamarket called Dixieland. I am convinced that if I keep going, I'll really hit paydirt.

Maybe the biggest bargain was my Farfisa Compact, at a house sale for $20. The three lower E keys actually play a flat G, the vibrato doesn't work, not all keys sound in all registers...but still it's a bargain.

Maybe my Alamo Montclair Reverb ($125) and Kalamazoo Model 2 ($60 or so, maybe less; I don't remember).

I don't know if I can count my two Univoxes, as they're actually worth the $120 and $60 I paid in the 80s, and today's prices are just obscenely inflated.

Fender Bassman w/ 2 matching cabinets - free.

My dad's prayer group friend loaned it to me and that was about 15 years ago. I gave up one cabinet in payment for rehearsal space and the blew the other one totally, but the head is still great.

I got a Beyer M380 on Ebay for $95 on September 12th or 13th , 2001. There was no reserve and, apparently, bidding traffic was slow at that time.

Thought I'd revive this thread because of these reasons:

1 - My first guitar amp should have been on this list.

2 - My Alesis SR-16 drum machine started fucking working again, with all the old patterns intact. Fucking great! It's still at the top of my favourite cheap purchase list.

3 - This thread is way old, and there are probably lots of new board people who have good stories to contribute and make me jealous of their wonderful finds.
