i saw them a long time ago opening for arab on radar. i hadn't heard of yyy. i thought they were bad and said so to the singer of des ark, who was on that bill. karen o tapped my shoulder and demanded an explanation. that's crass, i'm entitled to my opinion. i just told her "well i thought you and your band put on an energetic live show and people were really into it, but i don't know if it would stand on its own on record." she said "well as a matter of fact, people who have never seen us are raving about the record." to which i said basically "that's nice."

i don't know if i've heard maps, but i think it's safe to bet that maps is good and nothing else is, because that's how i feel about other similarly hyped groups -- one single that's good until you get sick of it.

tv on the radio -- staring at the sun
interpol -- obstacle 1
etc.

I am biased against the YYY because their guitarist was incredibly rude to me and my bandmates years ago, when we played a show in a loft space where he lived/worked.

Our crime against him was that we asked him where we could get some water, because all there was to drink was beer.

For a lead singer that seems to care a whole lot about fashion, Karen O seems to have terrible haircuts.

None of this has to do with their music, of which I have knowingly heard two songs.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures

yeah CRAP.

waffle factors for a good debut ep and they used to be a really good live band when you could still see them in sweaty shed-sized venues. my first paying gig was writing about this band. i'm pretty certain i was the first person in england to write about them. i thought they were really great then, being a kid and all.

they were always nice and polite to me. in person karen is fun and squishy but she's says "like" and "y'know" too much. i've just dug out my copy of the first ep and she signed it "to Tammy (sic), the band that sleeps together stays together, KO". not bad memories i guess.

oy, ive never heard them, so i can't say. however, i have a feeling i wont like it.

the worst part is... some drunk girl at our last show kept telling me how much she liked our band and how much we sound like the Yeay Yeah Yeahs, and that I should "totally" pick up their record because I would "totally" love it. I find this hard to believe. Can someone who has heard our band and this band please tell me that she is wrong? thanks

That is hilarious! Actually, you guys sound nothing at all like the YYYs.

I have had this same thing happen so many times at my shows. What it is, is people who don't listen to anything that you do or would consider your influences, so they just say the only thing that is even remotely close. Here was her thought process:

"Hmmmm, Push-Pull is weird and has loud guitars....so do the YYYs!"

If I had a dollar for everyone who has said that we sound just like the Sex Pistols! Really, it is guys who probably listen to Nickelback and Creed, and they know we are a "punk" band and so were The Sex Pistols, because that is as obscure of a band as they know....so, voila!

But, really, you guys sound like the YYYs?! You guys sound like Metallica clones compared to the YYYs.....jesus, she was stretching it....at least she liked you guys, I guess.

Anyway, you guys rock.
Give me a place to live in NYC and I will play in your band

Yay! I have a Myspace page!

Well, I lied. They are that bad.

This is uncanny.

This is exactly what happened with me (well, actually I didn't do the making fun bit because I knew it would lead the sad bit)
