Wheely wrote:When I was in high school, I used to tell my parents that I was spending the night with a friend, but in reality I would just stay out all night. Once, I think I was a junior, I went to a huge party under a railroad bridge and got wasted and stayed up all night. I have a very vivid memory of driving around on country roads the next morning, shortly after the sun had risen, still a little drunk. My girlfriend was sleeping in the back seat and a friend was sleeping in the passenger seat. Everything was very quiet except for Poison's "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" was playing on the stereo. (it was my girlfriend's cassette). I remember singing along in a low voice, thinking "this is a very important moment in my life".

It may have been.

Fucking awesome.

I needed a good cry/laugh/cry...

Realizing, live in front of hundreds of people, that getting stoned before you go on stage doesn't necessarily improve your playing ability.

1. About five minutes into the Shellac show at Augenblick I turned to my buddy Bryan and said something to the effect that it's great to finally see Big Black.

2. A flyer in my college listed a show with "Melvins," and below that "Helmet" in big bold letters. I then proceeded to ask various friends if they were going to see Melvin's Helmet.

They sure do "bloom" when Mrs. Albini's around.

"Chlamydia" isn't a flower, Brett.

when i was nine i thought that a blow job entailed simply peeing into the mouth of another person. my best friend Mike thought it meant someone literally blowing on a dick.

probably the low-point of my rock education was willfully purchasing a Gary Hoey CD. (i shall never forgive myself.)

i used to have frequently embarrasing conversations when i started playing in my first band. people would point out influences in our music, and i'd have no idea who any of the bands were.

a sample would be: ahh, i like what you're doing, it's kind of my bloody valentine crossed with joy division, and those samples are like godspeed you! black emperor.

at the time, i had no idea who those bands were - funnily enough when i actually went to listen to them, they ended up becoming my favourite bands.

other than that, thinking nico was a man.

Wow... you're idea of "rock" is pretty expansive!

Oh shit... I just thought of another.
The first show one of my first bands played we didn't know what you were supposed to do as far as setting up shit.
So, we borrowed our singers dad's mic mixer, plugged all our guitars into it and then daisy chained all our amplifiers together.
It was awesome.

I refuse to be embarrassed for any music I liked before I was, I dunno, 17 or around that age. You gotta let people off when they're young. for instance, when 'Park Life' by Blur came out, I was around 13 or so, and I loved it. But hell, that record is great when you're 13!

So, I'm racking my brains for something embarrassing I've done in my adult-or-thereabouts life. I know there's a lot of stuff.... back in the morning with tales of my lameness.

I'm not really embarrassed by any records in my collection.

What I am ashamed of was a long, rambling, mushy fan letter I wrote to Depeche Mode while I was in high school. One day it will come back to haunt me.
