"archers of loaf" and "superchunk"

the people who have spoken of them just flat out fucking ruin it for me.
maybe its just me..but they are always douchebags with stupid looking haircuts and clothing style...not that i have good clothing taste myself or have perfect hair...hard to describe...maybe "college kids" who listen to "college rock" would be a good description...hell...i'll just try to find a picture or something....blah!

Until then, if anyone asks you about Naked Raygun you can get by by just rolling your eyes, smiling, and going "woah-oooooh." If anyone asks what you think, just say you love "Rat Patrol." But clearly you dont want to stretch that too far.

Die Kreuzen were the first band that I ever mixed. Well, no, I guess the bands that opened for them were the first, but it was a Die Kreuzen *show,* so, y'know. They were amazing. I dunno if I'm a *respectable ADULT,* yet though.

Oh yeah, bands I know next to nothing about and am willing to admit it? Lessee. American Music Club. I mean, I have the records, but ...

And yeah, Red House Painters. And a ton of Brit Pop.

I, too, am wholly ignorant of these bands, most likely because they both have absolutely idiotic names. I have a deep prejudice against idiotically named bands.

I am also pretty ignorant of Sonic Youth. I owned their first EP when it came out and soon traded it to David Grubbs. I heard Daydream Nation back in the day and always liked "Teenage Riot" quite a bit, but as a whole I was not fully engaged. People always tell me I need to hear Sister or EVOL to really "get it." The former record was put on the last time I was in Louisville and I found it kind of annoying, probably because I was more interested in talking with my friends than listening to that music. I won't say it's crap, but it makes poor after-dinner music.

I only heard one Modest Mouse record, and I was totally nonplussed. I am pretty much clueless about New Order, too, thouigh they're a band I definitely wanna check out. I know I've heard a few of their songs, but only sparingly and by accident.

The Jesus Lizard: I bought Goat and liked it all right. I can see it coming out of The Stooges/Birthday Party, but there's something about the sound they're going for that just doesn't do it for me. I enjoyed lifting weights to it, but it's strange putting it on in my big old farmhouse out in the woods. Arguments that it rivals Funhouse are utterly preposterous. I must admit that the mid- to late 80's more industrial (?) side of punk/post-punk never really appealed to me.

Additionally, I have not heard a Fugazi record since their first release. I cannot explain the reason for this.

I remain, despite the advice generously given me on this board, almost wholly ignorant of The Fall. I plan to remedy this but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

All of these have elements in them that I think you will respond to.

Gong: start with either You or Radio Gnome Invisible. Maybe Flying Teapot. Slight hippie leanings, but engaging records (to me, at least) that grow on you with each listen.

The Residents: Oh my god I can't choose where to start with these guys. Um, um, if I still had Uncle Willie's Guide to the Residents I would burn you a copy. My head's going to explode, as someone else.

Sparklehorse: Start with Good Morning Spider, then his new record, then work backwards.

Live Skull: Positraction.

Pylon: Oh, my, yes.

Since T&G anniversary was just here, it brings a few bands to mind I dont' know shit about:

The Ex. Wow, they were great. I'm on a quest to find more. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Pegboy. I grew up in Chicago. I've known who Pegboy was and never was into them. I heard a few songs when I was a kid, but to be honest they just don't excite me at all. They were fun to watch at the T&G show, but their music still didn't grow on me.

Uzeda. I missed their show at T&G and I've never heard them, I'm only familiar with the name. But everyone keeps talking about how great they were and how much like the Ex they seem to be, so I'm now very interested in finding out more. Again, any recommendations would be appreciated.

I like the name "Archers of Loaf." Superchunk is good because it can be abbreviated to "The Chunque."

Oh, and if you have never heard Third World War, I suggest Third World War II, especially "I'd Rather Cut Cane for Castro"

No, I traded the Sonic Youth record to him. I don't recall what I got in return. Maybe a Nick Drake or Dust record or a Leonard Cohen LP I didn't have. I also recall trading him the first Scratch Acid EP.

I had never even heard OF Mission of Burma until "Our Band Could be Your Life". Still haven't heard them.

None of the three punk music fans I grew up with listened to Naked Raygun, so I still haven't heard them.

If I hadn't picked up "Atomizer" on a trip to DC in 1988 because I thought the cover was cool, I would probably not be here with you good people finding out exactly how much I really have missed out on.
