har.

crap.

At the beginning I thought that too......but give it a second chance.

Start with the EP This Is Meant To Hurt You, it's great. I was really annoyed by the bass on Oxeneers, he reminds me a bit of Muse and their fucking shit obsession about weird distorted bass sounds. But once you passed that, it's a great album, the track called Gadget Arms is brilliant!!!!

Deerhoof. I was expecting so much I guess – everybody seems to rate them. I saw them live and they were the most appalling band I have ever seen (I’ve seen plenty of crap). They just sucked so much. I thought the drummer was meant to be shit hot? They didn’t seem to know their own songs & or how to play their instruments that well.

Maybe I just don’t get it. If anyone can direct me to a decent song or album by this band I’m willing to give them another try.

Gang of Four - What's to like? All the songs sound the same, no hooks, one dynamic, boring.

Are we listening to the same Gang of Four? I like everything about Entertainment! What’s not to love? Anything but boring...

Nick Drake- I thought this was going to be some dark folk a la Leonard Cohen, but it was just some acoustic jazzy lounge singer music. I bought all 3 of his albums and I thought only "Pink Moon" was listenable.

I think that the 2 Albums prior to Pink Moon suffer from really awful arrangments. The band and the strings etc all seem to detract from the songs. Pink Moon for the most part is just Drake playing guitar (and little bit of piano) and it's much better for it.

Some of his better songs and better versions of songs are on "Time of No Reply" which was released after he died.

Why get so upset because somebody doesn't like a band you do?

seems like a more appropriate reaction.

Can and Heat are okay, but there's no need to get in a huff about it. It's not like he made fun of your sister.

Oh, and thanks other people for reminding me that the Melvins suck and that all of Paul McCartney's songs sound like commercials (oh wait, they are now).

I'd actually say their most recent - "The Runners Four" (assuming that's the most recent - it came out last year but they put out records frequently) - is probably your best bet. It's a really solid record, and is arguably their most accessible, too.

"Reveille" is probably my favorite, though. Anything earlier than that, and you don't have the most prolific lineup, though "Holdypaws" and "Halfbird" are also both great records.

But, definitely "The Runners Four". I think if you don't like that, you won't like anything by them.

pixies - i heard them being mentioned next to sonic youth and jesus lizard all the time so when i first heard them i was waiting for the nice poppy songs to end and for something much more unpleasent to finally begin.

jesus and mary chain - i will give them another chance but i heard this oh-ah psychocandy album and i haven't felt its greatness at all. i liked it... but nothing more.

and i agree with what has been said on minor threat. fugazi is about 87 times better.

the smiths - well, i am unable to listen to morrissey, but i can't hear anything genius-a-like going on in their songs.

explosions in the sky - i've been reading for months how unbelievably great they are... it turned out they are simply ok. and boy, those guys love mogwai.

Great background music for coffee and conversation though...

Same here. Gang of Four and Joy Division are two bands I retry every six months or so, and I just can't get into them. I don't get it: I love Wire. I love the Fall. I feel like I should love these bands too, but I don't.

When I was in high school/college, I loved the Replacements (even though they've got the aforementioned pub rock elements) and Husker Du. I figured that I should also like love Soul Asylum, right? Didn't happen. I just could not (and cannot) get into them--not the new stuff, not the old stuff, nothing. Well, OK, "Artificial Heart" is okay.
