i've been stringing mine with D'Addario ultra brites lately. I like having a bunch of obnoxious high end in my bass tone cause i'm in one of those two piece type bands. i've found that gibson basses in general all have a similar sound characteristic that i can't quite put my finger on. and the ripper is no different. it sounds like a gibson bass. funny enough... it had flatwounds on it when i bought it. i took those right the hell off as soon as i got it home... hehe. i've never been a fan of flatwounds... on a guitar or bass.

He had an old Gibson Ripper, too, which he unfortunately managed to make sound like shit by stringing it with GHS Bright Flats. I begged him to set it up with roundwounds, so I could use it as a spare emergency bass, but he never copped to it. The flats gave it a muddy, slightly overloaded craptone which I couldn't tolerate. I regret having never heard the "true" sound of that bass.

He also had a nice, sturdy '70's P-Bass with ash body and translucent finish, which I liked a lot, too, but he similarly fucked it up by stringing it with goddamn halfwounds so that it sounded like shit, too.

Damn shame.

Soon I will be adding, for stereo, one more Karlson K-12 loaded with a Eminence Deltalite 2512.

I have (2) Traynor PM-100s that I would like to drive with the two TS-50B preamp clone pedals I'm building...

I would like to go stereo from the 4003 into the two TSB Pre's into the two PM-100s. The treble (bridge) channel will feed the Beta-12LT and the Bass(Neck) channel will drive the Deltalite.

I should have the pre up and running next week. I've got the boards in... just need to order the parts.

In Ultracrush, for my Bass VI, I run the TS-50B into the K-12 (Beta-12LT) with a few effects... Compression, delay, reverb...

Precision Deluxe (Ash) -> SVT Classic Top -> Hartke 4x10" + Ampeg 15"

with a BOSS TU2 -> ProCo Diry Rat -> IBANEZ TS9

soon i'll get an Orange 4x10" to replace the Hartke cab.

to people who complain about the price of cab : here - in fucking France - a SVT 8x10" cost aprox 2000$ (new).... and don't hope to find one used. ok, ok ... i stop to complain (argggggg)

Ha ha, I've got a an old Korean Epi Jazz Bass copy and a crap-ass Yorkville 100 solid state. I've got a DOD Bass Grunge pedal that makes all that sound even worse. Can I join your club even though I never play either of them?
