One thing I am wondering about is: the main reason I got one was to use it as a hard drive to sync two Macs. So I need to be able to access it on two machines. Any tips on software to make that happen?

If this question got answered, I missed it. What exactly do you need to sync?

yut wrote:In fact, I wish you could get albums on 2 track reel-to-reel. Whatever happened to that? They used to put albums on the format in the 60s or 70s, and again... It fell to the wayside as the consumer friendly (but crappy sounding) cassette came in favor.

A good friend of mine has a 1/4" reel of Esquivel. However, one side of his home stereo is a TNT 150 Peavey bass amp. I bet it would sound fucking amazing on MY stereo...

rayj, don't get an iPod. The vibrations would definitely wake the bug in your ass. :)

I got my first iPod the other week and am busy transfering my CDs onto iTunes. I only got a 4gig iPod and i'm running out of space fast.

Which is the best codec to go for in terms of space efficiency? I've read on this thread about the Lossless format, is there any way of converting the existing mp3s and m4as to this format without significant loss of quality. Or do i have to re-import all my library again using this format? and is Lossless the best format for my purpose?

I use the expensive Sennheiser HD25 headphones with my iPod. They sound perfect, and they are not bad to your ears. I didn't recommend you to use the small ones what comes with the iPod and any other in the rage... they suck the Low frequencies and are so harmful for your ears. There are lor of very good models of closed back headphones, like the AKG K141, Sennheiser HD25, Beyerdynamic DT880... or if you are a rich man the Grado SR's...
There are no reason to get worried about the format or the bitrate if finally you are going to run the music with a cheap earbuds!!

Two ipod suggestions:

This. My friends don't know whether to pity me or envy me.

And this. Use it once or twice a week to keep your ipod fresh.
