I'll have a go at anything. I wish I could do more stuff but will learn as and when. I don't go out of my way to learn how things work if I don't need to, but if somethng needs doing I'll give it everything I've got until it's just stupid to not let someone do it who really knows how to. There are some incredibly basic things I've never done. There are some strangely complicated things that I have.
On a tangent of sorts, but after working in libraries and information for six years, I now wish I'd done some kind of apprenticeship when I was young in electrical engineering or something. From where I now stand, at 34, the idea of being a self employed electrician is much more appealing than spending any more time on a book-monkey stool, whereas when I was younger the last thing I wanted to do was something like that; maybe cos I come from (as they say) a blue-collar family and I wanted something 'better'. Now I see people my age living comfortably and being their own boss and knowing how to fix your house or machine or whatever, whereas at 16 I'd have seen them as going blindly into working class training because that was what was expected. I'd have called them sheep. Now I envy them. Yeah so I can write a bit and play a bit and I know a bit of stuff about philosophy or history or whatever. Blah blah blah. This person here can wire your garage up. Pick him. I'll be over here reading a book with my thumb up my ass.

DIY shit I do:
Build microphones (with varying degrees of success).
Rewire guitars (no problems there)
Cook (I don't even refer to the cook books anymore)
Mend clothing
Maintain a garden (such a zen-like calm washes over me)
Make my own cigarettes
