The only time pops will actually mention it is at family reunions (the odd one at least I still attend, I might add). As it is, in my family, there is a certain pride to be had in one's offspring being "into music." I usually downplay it, these people are in general not prepared for a: "Yeah, we mostly play in squads."

Also, I would get really, seriously worried if my dad actually turned out to not outright hate it.

my dad likes it and says it reminds him of Radiohead. Radiohead is the only modern band he's really familiar with.

my mom likes stuff like Enya and "doesn't get it".

I'm not nearly as abrasive as most of you guys probably are...and my parents still don't get it. In fact, my parents are probably among the least supportive parents (re: music) on the board.

It makes making music very, very hard actually. It just hurts to know that they used to think I was a talented actor...they just don't get this...

my parents hated my music. i'm 34 and they are in their 50's. my 11 years old son, however, likes a lot of my music (the fall, super furry animals, doves, film school) but i dislike most of his (green day, the fray, weird al)

My parents have never seen a Hi-Fi show (or any of my bands shows), this lead to a very strange happening, where my 14 year old cousin saw a little blip about us in Alternative Press and freeked out, asking my Mom all kinds of questions (I wasn't at easter that year I guess) and mom didn't know what to say... I think she kind of felt bad about it, as she started asking alot of questions about the band, and made me burn my cousin a bunch of cds...

back in the day they let us practice in there basement alot, I think they had to bear with the years when my bands were always horrid, so they get a pass now...

My Mum has seen me play music twice and my Dad has never seen me do a gig. I think I must have done about 600 in my life now so thats a pretty bad ratio.
For some reason, of all the bands I have ever done, my Mum's first gig experience of me was to come and see the most bizarre band I have ever been in.
To make it more bizarre, the gig was in a high walled theatre and the sound desk was in the 'gods' as it were.
Our soundman Mark suggested my Mum go sit with him up in the desk area when we played. She asked what he was doing so Mark showed her and then let her mix us when we played (we had a bit of a 'soundman as band member' thing, kind of the same principal as Mission Of Burma I suppose, in a way).
She seemed to enjoy it.
Then she saw me play a sedate solo guitar gig during which, in between song banter, I said 'cunt' 3 times in normal conversation and I have no idea why.
Mind you, she copped off with Jeff Beck once when he was in the Yardbirds so I guess she may just have taste which explains her lack of interest.

Unlike my friend Bob's Mum who took him to see The Jesus Lizard on several occasions.

Ha!

We were talking about bands when I was younger and she said she saw The Stones and The Yardbirds in the little town we used to live in. She was friendly with The Yardbirds and fancied Keith Relf the singer and expressed her disappointment to me that she only got interest from the 'guitar player' before looking a little embarrassed.
I was immediately "WHICH GUITAR PLAYER?!"
Mum "I don't know. I didn't really like him that much (giggles)"
Me "Oh God. Tell me it wasn't Eric Clapton"
etc etc.
I had a look at the timeline and it was Beck. Disaster averted.
