Funny thread. Funnier still is the fact that Trent Reznor and Alec Empire (who is a very friendly and unpretentious guy in person) are the same person:

Discovery
On the back of a new NIN tour shirt, fans noticed that certain letters were highlighted. These highlighted letters form the phrase "I AM TRYING TO BELIEVE." Assuming that this was not mere coincidence, they found that www.iamtryingtobelieve.com is an actual website.
After analyzing the page, certain keywords and phrases piqued fan's interest and more websites relating to the World of Year Zero were uncovered. The information on these websites illustrated a dystopic world of the future, in which a totalitarian government has assumed control of the United States.

i'm actually enjoying this record. 'vessel' and 'survivalism' are pretty ass-kicky. the lyrics are a tidge better overall, but are still pretty juvenile. i don't really care, i don't listen to nin to get smart. its pretty carnal music.
but then again, i really liked alec empire's last solo set, 'futurist.' thus, you might want to ignore this...

i'm creeped out by the level of fandom. a nin wiki? they have nin hotlines there? a jillion websites dedicated to "true" and "false" info about a dystopia that's fictional in the first place?

yeah, I definitely hear that. But you have to admit it is a pretty clever marketing ply. The pitchforkmedia review was fairly good compared to other nails records reviewed there. This particular reviewer was happy to see that he embraced his nerd fan base...so to each their own I guess.

I'm gonna say 'fuck it' and say that I actually like several of the songs on this album. I don't care. I guess I'm just a sucker for "bad" lyrics and such.
