There are plenty of talented women, just like there are tons of male bands who make crap (!!! comes to mind). I will say that I DON'T like it when a band becomes popular on the merit of their attractiveness - CocoRosie are like Shakira for guys who grew up dreaming about hot bohemian girls who were too scene for them.

Man, they are something else. The 'Rainbow Warriors' video is such a monstrosity, I've really never seen anything like it.

It's got nothing to do with the fact that they are women, and you know it. I saw them live, as did many people here. they did nothing special, and they were easy to tune out. I did like her voice, though. it sounded 100 years old, and that's cool. however, they aren't experimental or interesting or cutting edge. they're just competent musicians with a lot of bad ideas thrown on top of other bad ideas so that it sounds like it's not "by the numbers". unfortunately the embellishments they slather on top of their songs are trite. embarrassing, really. My old female band mate could rock rings around these two. I'm fairly certain my current female band mate could do the same.

to boot, I know you said this new record is the best thing ever in that other thread, but any record that contains a steaming pile, such as "Rainbowarrriors" could not be the best.

it is because they are women and you know it, men see women out doing what they want in a nonconformist way and they freak out. They see them dressed oddly or not acting like the regular 'rock' chick and it scares them. They don't want to allow women to do that, I mean who do these women think they are acting in a way I do not have a handle on?
There is no call for the venom they are getting, they are just playing their music like they wanna play it. They try new shit all the time, I have 20 wildly different versions of certain songs of theirs.
This is why girl standing there playing guitar and singing bland rock songs is celebrated to no end and girls doing some bizarre harp and beatbox song gets shit all over.

Rainbowarriors is a good song, it's a goofy dance song for them to play live and whirl around. The video is terrible I agree.
