that reminds me -- when i'm 64 has a pretty bridge. but i think that's more from the old AABA middle-8 tradition, which as i said has a better track record, than the rock verse-chorus-verse-chorus-i-think-we-need-a-bridge tradition, which is spottier.

"Help Me" by Joni Mitchell is, in my opinion, the finest bridge ever. It's so great how it fakes you into thinking that it's the tag-out and that the song is over before reintroducing that bombastic turn-around and back to the verse.

"We Can Work It Out" has an excellent "middle eight," too, probably because Lennon wrote it, making it even more of an antidote than a bridge normally is to the McCartney verses.
