tommydski wrote:Possibly! I just like(d) REM a whole lot. When I was about 12-13 I was looking for a band that could draw my attention away from the Beatles, since I had been listening to for a decade or so. REM were pretty similar in my mind, in that they had lots of albums of nice pop/rock with a steady advancement of ideas each time. Later on I got into Sloan for similar reasons I guess.

I understand what you were trying to do with this thread.

Now let me just say that I regard "Out of Time" as R.E.M.'s worst moment. They were never my favourite band. However, I quite liked "Life's Rich Pageant" for a while, and though I was no longer really interested in them, I was vaguely impressed by things I heard on Automatic for the People. But "Out of Time" for me was just terrible. If I never hear it again, I'll be just fine.

The first time I heard the song "Underwhelmed" I thought "Man, that doubled vocal sounds just like Ozzy Ozbourne... weird." - then I saw them live, and for their encore they did 4 Black Sabbath covers. (very well I might add.) They were nice guys, but I never heard anything they did after that first album, which was an o.k. slab of wax.

loveless, thirded. london calling too (fun, but not that fun). to my ears led zeppelin's lemon has also been squeezed dry.

and, i'm sorry, nico chelsea girl. what i like about this record involve the songwriting (minus "little sister," "winter song," "it was a pleasure then," and "wrap your trouble in dreams"--oops, that's half the record), arrangements (minus flute) and pretty guitar, all of which have nothing to do with nico. she sounds pleasantly spooky (at best, usually just horrifying) but the songs i like, which are just nice songs, could just as well be sung by someone else. nico, you sound like you sing in joke voice meant for funny ha-ha.

Loveless was a good record but it is not as good as Isnt Anything. That record was the bee's knees when I first heard it.

Slanted and Enchanted by Pavement is also quite overrated in my opinion. Like Loveless it is a good record but I truley appreciate the later records so much more. Wowee Zowee was a perfect gem of a record.

Exile on Main Street. It is nowere near as bad ass as Sticky Fingers.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik...

Sorry I think it's a pile of piss. Every Chili fan says it's monumental, I'd go as far as saying I like californication more, their self titles shits all over both, but chili peppers ruined their music for me a long time ago. They are a joke.

Ok Computer

The Bendz

All of Radiohead is fucking drivel, It is beyond me why ok computer gets so many best album ever wins.

Lists like these are retarded.

Crap List

I also can't stand anything by The Rolling Stones.

Definitely Maybe - Still something that retards hold close to their heart, they say Oasis were the biggest band in the world at one point? it's not amazing song writing it's shite song writing, all copies of the pile of crap should be destroyed, they are a derivative, cocky and sad band.

Hootenanny

I feel like these particular albums, due to their undeserved hype and resulting influence, have spawned far more crap on the radio- even to this day- than we will ever really know.

Outside of this forum, Led Zepplin's Presence has an undeservedly poor reputation. Too bad, since its their best album after the first four.

"Closer" Not that it's bad, it is fantastic. But "Unknown Pleasures" is better.

I agree on "Loveless" - good, but not that good.
I don't agree on Police, they were a fine band.

Edit: oh yeah, the famous "first four" by Led Zep. "II" is easily the best, and IV is pretty medicore. "I" has incredibly dull moments, too.

I love London Calling.

Trout Mask Replica doesn't deserve its reputation. The mythology that surrounds that record (it was composed in eight hours!) annoys me, too, as it seriously downplays the effort made by the musicans to give shape to Don Van Vliet's often vague ideas.

I "get" that record, but I don't enjoy it.

I "got" it too. Used. Retail. Sporadically enjoyed.
