No it annoys people who have manners and a respect for the strangers around them who paid just as much as you did to see the same show. So could you stop acting like a 12 year old for an hour or so? It's not just all about you and your friends. Thanks pal.

PUSSY ALERT!!!

thanks for telling me i'm right.

It would be great if you actually had the balls call me a pussy to my face but since you're obviously just a 12 year old who's balls haven't dropped yet I guess I'll have to wait a few years.

It just sounds to me like your view of Milwaukee bands is a little colored by the attitude you perceive them as putting off. Like the whole "CML has a little of that 'keytars are cool' attitude" thing. Keytars ARE cool, and i'm not saying that ironically.

Listen to their MySpace. Do it now. Get back to me. Tell me that you like their two new songs. I dare you.

OK, i like their two new songs. Wait, are you counting "Hot Damn!" as a new song? Because that's been in their set since i've been seeing them, since, like 2003 or 2004. They're a great power-pop band. How that translates to "Pitchfork pussy shit," i dunno, but then, i haven't been paying attention to what Pitchfork's into these days, so maybe they really like solidly-executed power-pop these days? if so, i'd call that an improvement.

I saw them twice in the last two months and had a great time at both shows. Including all the back-and-forth shit talking from the stage that i exchanged with Nick Woods at both shows. Heh.

EVERYONE! Behold. Please...please listen to Hot Damn. Your stomach will sink with the mention of one name.

http://www.myspace.com/theboxsocialrocks Listen to "Hot Damn."

Let the outcry begin. Their one good song is "I Need To Know" and that is overproduced and Strokesy as fuck. I know they're takin' aim at a major label. I have it in print. Enjoy, bitches.

El Protoolio is a good man. Additionally, he doesn't go off about cities of which he only has a strictly superficial knowledge.

Oh geez, so they name check Albini. Big deal. It's a cringer of a line, but whatever.

And you're aware that "I Need to Know" is a Tom Petty cover, right?

Dr. Awkward...The Box Social used to be rockers. This is "teen punk." Faux punk. Whiny voice that you've heard one million times before. This is not too much different than Fall Out Boy to be honest with you. I definitely prefer this dreck to Fall Out Boy, but it's in the same vein. This stuff...it's fuckin OC, Phantom Planet type bullshit aimed at an MTV type stardom that doesn't even exist anymore.

My main complaint is that all the bands that I come into contact with...nobody has any heart anymore...everything is too chaotic...the band no longer shines through the gloss...the gloss becomes the band.

There ARE bands now that have rebelled against this nearly 10 year old aesthetic, and I will bend over backwards for them.

I did not know that "I Need To Know" was a Tom Petty cover. This makes me sad.

The Box Social...they're nice guys, but I'm telling you...it's like Lester Bangs...you must be unmerciful.

I know the type of music you make Dr....you know this is bad.

Then they're doing a pretty shitty job at taking aim for a major label, eh?

My point is that their sound hasn't really changed in the four years i've been seeing them play. Maybe the production's gotten slicker, but i haven't noticed any progression towards "selling out" in their songwriting. I'm not saying i'd ever ever want to be in a band like theirs, but i enjoy lots of bands that i'd never want to sound like personally. They're damn good at what they do, i enjoy it, if they wanna get famous, good luck to 'em, but it's never gonna happen for exactly the reason you described--that movement's passed 'em by in the mainstream already.

I'm not quite following how "too chaotic" = "glossy," but i'm not going to argue that there aren't plenty of bands out there trying to gloss up to get noticed or appeal to as many people as they can. Obviously, they're out there. I'm sure tons of them are complete douchebags too, but from my many experiences dealing with the Box Social, or at least Nick specifically, i wouldn't rank them among the douchebags. I try to not let current trends dictate what i enjoy either, be it in a wholesale embracing OR rejecting manner.

You are aware i started a thread extolling the virtues of Queensryche, right?

Unironically?
