Maybe the Americans on the board can correct me here but I got the impression that 'paki shop' or the term 'paki' in general is only really considered an insult over here.
It's a bad example maybe but I remember seeing Bush using the expression 'the Pakis' in some interview when referring to Pakistanis and he's hardly likely to cause a diplomatic incident by saying something stupid now is he?

My point is that nobody who isn't in the Stooges has any standing to tell the world what the Stooges are all about.

If I were in a band, and we broke up or whatever, and some guy who wasn't in the band tried to hold an opinion decades later on what I and the other people who were actually in the band ought to do with our own band... Well, that guy can go fuck himself.
If I get it right, and I probably don't, Adam points out that all the romance surrounding The Stooges (like, being familiar with them used to say something about one's musical taste) is now gone, and it was killed not only by the fact that they are simpy a functioning band again, but by overexposur the Stooges get in the media. So he is not that much against the Stooges, but he is dissapointed about loosing something, a legend, which was, how to say it, available only for the chosen ones or whatever. Of course, it is easy to argue that this take on the situation is not the smartest one, but this is exactly shows what band-fans relationship are made of: emotions. <soap opera line here!>. A case smiliar in some places to the re-union of certain chicago band, which was widely discussed here.

The Stooges have solidified their place in rock and roll history. They made three incredible albums back in the Vietnam era, three of the most powerful punk albums of all time.
With that said, I'm not a fan of their new stuff. However, their integrity remains untarnished, and their reputation will live on forever. How many other great bands have faltered here and there? After all, Led Zeppelin's later material wasn't exactly inspired, and Cheap Trick recorded a bunch of bullshit after their third album, and no one ever tries to denigrate those great bands for faltering.
Give them a break. Iggy has the right to make a few mis-steps. After all, he still gives one hundred percent at every gig. Watt and the Ashetons are still capable of tearing it up. Stop freaking out about your shattered illusions. No band is god-like, even the one that once recorded FUN HOUSE.

I saw the Stooges on the JR show. I thought their performance was really good. My girlfriend said it made her feel queasy & uncomfortable – which surely is the desired effect. In such an unusual & unnatural environment for a rock band I thought they did a great job.
JR’s questions for them were really dull “what drugs did you do?” – is this what he earns gazillions of pounds for? I would love to see Mike Watt included in some of the interviews.
How is it that Watt manages to simultaneously look 50 and 17 years old at the same time?

'We wupped the Paki's good last summer' etc.
I think you're kidding yourself if you think that an Aussie using the term Paki is not derogatory.

Yeah, they were pretty jovial when they were killing all the 'abos' too.

Funny you should say that cause I know an aussie fella and used to use the term 'abo' round him freely unaware that it was a derogatory term.
Then he told me.
Whoops.
