44wow, I just spent about 3 hours trying to get an external usb western digital hard drive to install on vista. "couldn't find the drivers..."
drive works fine. ended up plugging it into another computer running xp and transferring the files over the network.
vista also doesn't network very well.

45The thing I love about Vista is that it has drastically driven down the resale price of sub-Vista-ready PCs.
Thanks to Vista, you can now pick up a 2-3 GHz Pentium 4 PC with 1 GB of RAM for under $100. You can even get a sub-Vista-ready laptop for under $200. Most of these machines come with an XP installation disk, or with XP already installed. Or you can download and burn yourself a Linux install disk for free.

I've seen laptops there for like $100 that will run XP, and ones for as low as $25 that will run Linux comfortably. You might have to use fluxbox or another lightweight window manager, but you'll have a very useful PC for which all the software you need can be had for free.

49I have OS X, XP and Vista on various machines at home.
I never thought I enjoy using XP until I fired up Vista. The platform treats you like a total idiot, every time you do something a "are you really sure?" window pops up. Plus it's slow and looks like a Noddy version of OS X.
They pushed it out too soon for marketing reasons instead of doing something really nice and well thought out.
Shite.

50Easily the worst thing that has ever happened to me in the field of computing was buying a brand new laptop with Vista preinstalled.
Up to now, I've been too lazy to reinstall XP, and man am I suffering for it.
