Of course, there are notable exceptions like Gibby Haynes and that freak from Midnight Oil. But are they actually musicians?

This is true in my case. I loved playing sports, but my growth spurts came late and not generously. I was a decent baseball player, and had a pretty good jumpshot. But as I went deeper and deeper into the lower half of the size spectrum from 6th grade on, it was obvious to me that the best I could hope for in sports was mediocrity. It's also about the same time my interest in music was stimulated and I picked up a guitar.

Or, the same with opposing teams and drunken fools beating the shit out of each other regardless of race, creed, musculature, beards just because you happen to have a Blue shirt instead of a Red one. Beautiful.

You sound like a Vikings fan. Don't make he have to kick your ass, Vikings fan.

Hell, I parlayed my athletic mediocrity into a 2-sport high school career, and a varsity letter at a large Division I-A school. Mediocrity can take you far if you ignore it. (That makes no sense.)

Which game does that team play? Is this the one with the dumb tall guys, or the one with the stupid fat guys?

With apologies to Dr. Awkward, what's boring and lame is being laboriously reminded to appreciate Bret Favre every week. The old gunslinger... His child-like enthusiasm and love for the game... Enough, already.

Sports can be so many things that it would be silly to call them all CRAP.

Sure, investing your life into watching overpaid goofballs play whatever sport happens to be in season and using that as a vehicle by which to avoid dealing with actual reality? That's CRAP.

Grilling up some meaty products, drinking some Maker's Mark and Blenheim ginger ale with your pals while checking out some college football? NOT CRAP.

Playing sports? NOT CRAP.

Coaching your kid's baseball team as a way to live vicariously through a 9 year old? CRAP.

Subtle difference. I'm not sure what it is.
