this finally arrived in the mail today. holy fuck. one box that contains the vinyl albums in weird polywrap plastic slipcovers. another box that contains the hardbound book, the dvds & cds (in a second book), and the artwork (in a third book). both boxes together weigh a little under 10 pounds. completely beautiful, just sharp as hell. fwiw, one of the first things i thought upon opening it was 'goddam - this is some shellac-quality packaging.'
makes metal box look like an altoids tin...

I figure not many people give a shit around here, but there's a new free release, "The Slip".

yeah, and it's kind of nice that he's getting into fast music again. wish he'd hurry up and get the disco out of his system...

AAAAAAAARGH wrote:Here's a funny story about instrumental NIN. My favorite song by them/him was an instrumental called "at the heart of it all" which was on one of the remix CDs. I must have listened to this album about 2 or 3 times a day for several months. I was infatuated with it and I had never heard anything like it.
Anyway, I found out a few years later (after I was no longer into NIN) that this track was a remix by Aphex Twin. It was one of those "Remixes for Cash" he did where a label asked him for a remix of their song and he sent them whatever he was working on at the time. RDJ had never even heard the NIN album.
My funny (?) story about instrumental NIN - I thought 'A Warm Place' was a fucking brilliant track - until I found out it was basically an (uncredited) cover of an old Bowie b-side.

I like Barbo's sliding-scale pledge awards.
Making all your money and THEN being all above-it-all with your shit, that's the easiest thing in the world.
Prince, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails. Duh, you already banked several million dollars playing the game.
Congratulations--you're semi-retired. So's my dad. He's not extra-proud of himself for only having half a job now.
Not making your records for a gigantic corporation from the outset, not as easy.
Dabblers.

Agreed.
Not making your records for a gigantic corporation from the outset, not as easy.
I disagree. It's just that the semi-retired have decided to take it just as easy as, say, the Pit or .22
Doing it outside the infrastructure is way easier for everybody. It's so easy that any four fucks with a Myspace page can do it. It's only notable that big names are doing exactly what the third on the bill at Cal's are doing.
It's easy.
Dabblers.
All of us! Hooray!

this is the fact i have always brought up. people are touting these cats as innovators, but 9000 indie bands beat them to the punch. just sucks that they didn't get the same kind of press.

Yeah, you're right.
I should have said "bank[ing] several million dollars" while etc.
Dabblers.
All of us! Hooray!
I suppose so. But we are committed dabblers!
