Back Pain

I think the main issue here is you have to look at the entire idea of back pain differently. So many people with back problems.. is the spine and the way our backs are designed and constructed the cause of our pain? People with severe scoliosis and deformities that pinch the nerves and compress the discs are not all living with back pain, so why should we with more or less normal backs be in such pain?

Back Pain

My wife and I sleep on an incredibly firm mattress that we bought a couple of years ago and while I absolutely love it, I've recently started experience middle back pain in the middle of the night and after getting up in the morning. The pain lingers for about an hour and then starts to subside. My normal sleeping position is kind of weird, the bottom half of my body is face-down (for lack of a better way to describe it) and my upper half is to the side. So it's kind of twisted and unnatural I suppose and I thought that what might be causing the pain, though I've been doing it forever. I tried forcing myself to sleep in other more normal positions but I'm getting the same pain, so I think it's just the mattress. Which sucks because it's great, but I guess I'm getting old. I also tried different pillow setups, adjusting combinations for different heights, but no luck there.I know I should probably consult a doctor or a chiropractor, but have any of you experienced mattress related back problems? Do you think I should try some kind of softening pad that can be installed under the sheets? I've been taking two ibuprofen before sleeping at night, which alleviates it, but I don't want to make a habit out of that and avoid the problem entirely.Being tall and having bad posture throughout my life probably hasn't done me any favors either, I need to work on this.
