Also, I'm not sure if you've ever heard of say, Kraftwerk, Can or Neu!? Can you see any argument for their cultural significance, specifically to the music most of us listen to?

There's lots of American music that's easily as bad as this. Anyway, these guys are just aping the horrible Japanese pop-rock crap that's proliferating all over the Internet these days, which is in turn based on a fusion of American crap hair metal from the '80s and Japanese pop (itself rooted in American "bubblegum" pop). So it all comes back to the USA in the end. I'd say our own country has inflicted more bad music and art on the world than any 3 countries combined, so I wouldn't be so quick to condemn an entire nation for the output of 4 misguided young musicians.
As far as the Nazis go, I wouldn't exactly say the German people got a "free pass on that one".
