this is almost verbatim the PM Angus Jung sent me years ago when I bagged on Sheila for the first time. Angus Jung is still a dear friend of mine. he sent me more pictures of one of his awesome dogs the other day.

Lucky Chicagoans - 2 Polvo sets in a row
How was Subterranean?
What were the set-lists for the shows?
Please tell me they played something from Shapes - Rock Post Rock or D.D. S.R. maybe?
I heard a recording of one of their first reunion shows and D.D. sounded very differently (not in a pleasant way)
I like those songs verbatim as on the albums - I hope they re-learned them better by now and are not improvising a lot :)
Flying over to see them in LA in August...

don't bother going to see them in LA if you want the songs to sound like they did on the records. almost every single song has been reworked at least a little if not a lot. they still play some of the same main riffs, and then replace parts of the songs with entirely new sections. new riffs, new arrangements, everything.

if you want it to sound just like the album, seriously, you are going to be very, very disappointed. I have never seen a band change their songs around this much.

the sets were somewhat similar, maybe 2/3 of the songs from saturday were songs they had played on friday.

friday they played one of the new songs, the one where Ash sings, the one that starts with a riff that sounds a bit like the beginning of Thermal Treasure (which they played Friday and were planning on playing Saturday but didn't due to time issues or just an audible in general) and then on saturday they played that one and also another new one that Dave sang.

as far as Shapes stuff, they played Enemy Insects on friday and DDSR on saturday.

by the time they play the next shows, in calfornia in like a month, who knows what will have changed. maybe more new stuff, maybe time for them to lock in with the new drummer on some of their other stuff. who knows.

that's the one thing I can almost 100% guarantee to you though, that you will not hear the songs played exactly like you remember them from the records. who knows what you'll get, but it seems damn near certain that it won't be recreations of the album versions.

I was glad to see Slint play Spiderland just like the album, and equally glad to see Polvo stirring things up and reconstructing them. kinda makes sense with the general vibe of each band.

one of the weirdest things for me was to hear the songs with consistent tempos. there were parts that felt odd (on Friday, not so much on Saturday cause I was used to it) where it felt like the song should have sped up but it didn't. new guy is way more technical and controlled than Eddie.

I hope they come back to Chicago soon. maybe in the springtime or something.
