I backslid in a major way, quite some time ago. After three nonsmoking months, I had gained 30 unnecessary pounds (which are still with me), my blood pressure had gone WAY up after a lifetime of low/normal measurements, and all of a sudden I was at much higher risk of developing adult-onset diabetes.Well, *someone* has to think of the tobacco executives. :\

In case you're thinking about it: if I can do it, you can do it. Started when I was 13; quit when I was 31.

I started taking Wellbutrin 01 April to kick this shit while simultaneously addressing some other bullshit that's gone untreated for a while. First week was brutal. Felt super fucking weird and didn't want to do anything besides chain smoke. Sometime during week 2 cigarettes immediately became repugnant. So weird. 2 week anniversary, but I have not had a single physical or psychological craving since. I feel great. I really hope this sticks.

Welp, I've moved to China, and that has cut my chances of quitting smoking to 0%. Seriously. It's insane here. You can basically do whatever you want aside from talking shit about the government. I realize saying that is funny, while living in China...but it's true. So, now it's looking like either : I'll get so disgusted with smoking because of China, and Chinese off-brand cigarettes, that my trigger will come and I'll have my need to quit.I'll start and stop forever.I'll keep rolling to an early grave.I supposed we'll see.

China would have to be the worst place to quit.I don't smoke much at all but when I visited I found myself with a pack-a-day habit just cos they're SO FUCKING CHEAP. A pack's about $20 here in NZ, in China...$2? It seemed crazy not to develop a smoking habit at those kinda prices. Also, the air is so shitty that it doesn't feel like much of a compromise health-wise.

If you don't want to smoke, you will stop as a result of that desire, even if the process is bumpy. If you hope some external factor will cause you to stop, that means you still want to, and any stoppage will be temporary until you resume doing what you want to.I quit a 13 year habit twice and resumed, then one day realised I didn't want to despite being free to smoke if I wanted. 14 years later, zero relapses, zero interest in taking it up.If only I could fix all my other shitty habits.

One of the easiest ways to quit smoking is doing so when some big external factor is involved: moving house, becoming ill so that you don't want to smoke, a new job. All of these are great times to break the habit, which is all smoking is, a habit. We all had places and times we smoked, when those change and habits are disrupted, it's way easier to quit.
