Recently read The Road.

Fuck me is it bleak.

Like the world he describes, and unlike the other work of his I've read, the text is very stripped down which adds to the starkness. In fact if you could strip down a description of such a brilliant piece of work to one word that would be it - stark.
Don't read it if you're feeling low.


In fact do read it if you're feeling low don't read it if you're feeling chipper. Not many books have drawn tears from me.
This one did.

In case you haven't seen it yet, the trailer for the Coen Brothers' adaptation of No Country for Old Men is up.
