the town also has this huge hate for touring artists, as they have to pay a good chuck of their money JUST to stop here

we are a greedy boring crack town called Vancouver.

I've honestly wanted to start a band since I was 18, I'm 20 now and I'll probably still be bitching about this when 25 rolls around. I just want to start rebuilding a scene in this city that once was really strong from what I hear.

What a downer.
nah, I just know my city kind of stinks, and most of the scene does too.

To our greasy guest...

If that's what you're into, Vancouver is the right place. There is a pretty large homosexual population here. Very nice bunch, really... Just not my thing.

There's a band called 'Raygun' that's worth a listen... I think that they're from Victoria though... Most bands migrate at one point or another, it's just a shame that the BC ferries are so damn expensive, 'cause Victoria has quite a scene too.

Dave Matthews is ignored here. Along with Brian Adams and Nickelback... Don't mention them.

No music coming from Vancouver? Here are some possible reasons.
-Abundance of marijuana
-Scenesters too busy talking ABOUT music to actually play it.
-Outside of Vancouver, there aren't any places a band could play without going to the States. Therefore the economic feasibility of having a profitable venture in a band is low. This problem affects all of Canada, however, in Winnipeg they just don't give a shit about that fact and just play music because there's nothing else to do so it seems worthwhile. That's my guess anyway.

Otherwise it's a nice city. It was recently ranked #3 in the world for places to live.

Hey, for those into the Steve McBean thing, (Black Mountain, Pink Mountaintops, Jerk with a Bomb) check out the Hive site and look up "Ex Dead Teenager." In the unreleased section you can download their full album. Highly recomended. There are a couple of other note-worthy bands on there too... "Daddy's Hands", "The Measure" and "Closed Caption Radio." Absolute obscurity for the music snob in you to brag about. The site wont let me cut and paste the exact spot, so you'll have to find it.

Personally, I think that Ex Dead Teenager was the best band of his, but that's just me.
