Archers of Loaf are NOT CRAP. That's a no-brainer for me.
Not sure about 'Vee Vee' but everything else is pretty much inspired.

43NOT Crap, these Archers of Loaf.
My great friend Tony and I think White Trash Heroes (ouch, that's a terrible album title) is, from a production standpoint, one of the most underrated-and-excellent rock albums of the last ten or so years. It's a great listen.

44I was lucky enough to see this band four times over the course of their career. Never once were they anything less than fucking awesome. When they would play Gabes, it was like an event. Packed to the walls. When they would break into "Harnessed In Slums" the place would go fucking berzerk. I am sure they did this at the many places they played.
All the albums, besides White Trash Heroes (ok, "Fashion Bleeds" is a great song), are great.
A huge NOT CRAP!

45They are one of those bands I've listened to on a number of ocassions because I have a couple of friends who speak volumes about them. For whatever reason, they are not a band that pulled me in enough to want to go buy their stuff. Therefore, I don't own any and have ambivalent feelings about what I've heard. Maybe they are one of those groups that you need to develop a taste for. One of my all-time favorite groups took a few months or maybe a year for me to like them, then one night (while in high school and quite impaired on one illicit substance or other), their rock hit me (tJL) and my musical interests and direction were forever changed.
So who knows, coming from friends of mine who have much taste in common with me, maybe I could really like them. As it stands, 50/50 -- no vote.

46As EA'er Alex Maiolo showed me, Archers of Loaf's bassist Matt can do a mean Tracey Pew. So that's a plus. Never heard the band, though.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

oucheh, how did we never meet in Iowa City? We appear to have lived the same life.
Or perhaps I am posting your messages in some sort of "Sybil" scenario.
Anything's possible!

This "Alex Maiolo" character can also be found in the liner notes to All the Nations Airports.
