I saw them at 7am on New Years day in a bowling alley.

I believe you are beaten.

My then-girlfriend and I bought tickets to that show but got in a huge fight the night before and then didn't wake up in time to see the show. Was it good? Looking back, I wish I still had the ticket because I'm sure some clown would pay $20 for it on ebay.

It was quite good. Steve and Bob fucked with some skinheads while passing out poptarts. Then Steve did this rant about there being a deal, and if there wasn't a deal why not? They started with "Didn't We Deserve a Look at You", and I was amazed. Someone asked when Terraform was coming out and they just handed him what I assume was an advanced copy. They continued to pass out pop tarts throughout their set.

Good Stuff.

Alright, had to bring this one back up.

Shellac is ace. I think 1000 Hurts is their best record so far.

Favorite moments:

The ending of "My Black Ass", when Bob plays this weird chord on the bass and Steve keeps strumming another bizarre chord on the guitar. It sounds totally disorienting and bent.

"Rush Job"! This has to be one of the weirdest songs I've ever heard, yet it somehow manages to form itself into a catchy pop melody halfway through.

The part in "Mama Gina" when the guitar sounds like a flamethrower.

Todd's drumming in general is totally unique. Each of the three instruments sound like they're in different time signatures, and if you concentrate really hard on what Todd is playing, it sounds almost like he's playing another song.

Ace, mate! By far better than Big Black or Rapeman, in my opinion.

This is almost true, except for

Wire (I still smile at his fuck-up on "12XU" when I hear that song)

Ok, he was kinda shitty on Pink Flag, but this guy got good later on. Have you seen the On The Box DVD? I think he's really great on that.

What, you never heard a song about creation? You must not listen to Yes.

Heh heh, I meant "weird" in terms of its musical structure, but I suppose the lyrics are weird as well!

Yes? No.

sorry, i just saw this, what the hell are you talking about?

Gotobed is/was an incredible drummer. (i've always thought Wire's weakest link was Lewis' bass playing, though it's barely noticeable.)

well, it's just a minor quibble, but sometimes i think Lewis' bass playing was a little sloppy and more like that of a guitar player who happened to play the bass than actual "bass playing" so to speak. but, really, i shouldn't be bringing this up, cuz i love Wire's first few albums. to death.
