Ah ok. Yeah, having some braze ons for stuff is a nice option. 42I recently started working out. I've been slowly gaining weight for years, and somehow gained 20lb since the work from home years. Stress/boredom eating has become a thing as I've gone through a few less than good job situations and am confronting personal issues, and starting psych meds which I'm told can contribute to weight gain.
My wife has great discipline for working out, but I do not. I tried joining her in a workout plan she has been into that's about building core strength, but I found myself feeling destroyed after each session. I stopped that, but recently decided I'd prefer mindless cardio. For about a month now I've been going to the gym about twice a week and just using the eliptical. I like that it's low impact and I feel like I'm getting what I need from it. I do 2x 30 min stints with some intensity variations, and that works. Trying to keep it up.

43Did my first 5K obstacle course last weekend, which was a blast. I got a little overzealous and sloppy on one of the early obstacles and smashed my ribs into a log hurdle instead of going over it (pretty sure the ribs are bruised, not broken), but despite that pain, I'm super glad I did it. Had to confront my fear of heights on another obstacle, which is also a win.

Tough Mudder has announced they are eliminating the shorter races next year, so all races in 2024 will be 10 miles or longer. I've never run more than 3 miles, but I welcome the motivation to train harder and smarter.
I have more injuries to manage these days, but I'm going to do what I can. Onward.

44I've already put nearly 200 miles on the Revolt 2. The frame geometry is a dream. It feels like the bike is hurtling me into the future. The seat post creaks, though. This is allegedly a feature, not a bug- the weird triangle shape of the seatpost allows for it to soak up some of the shock of bumps and gullies in the road. However, if it gets so much as a speck of grit in it, it makes a fairly annoying creaking sound. I'm not sure if it's annoying enough to contact Giant about or not. This explains the big question I've had for years about why most mountain bikers are shaped like barrels and road bikers are shaped like coat racks. A lot (most?) of MTB rides are either grueling "I think I'm gonna vomit" climbs or coasting downhill as you hurtle through the trees. Road biking, you hit a groove and stay there until a motorist tries to kill you. (which is why I don't road bike any more)
Once I found this out last week, I decided it was time to get a gravel bike, and wallah, I am the proud new owner of a partially financed Giant Revolt 2. So far I have put about 60 miles on it and it was almost all on dirt roads through the nearest National Forest. Man, is that a good time.
I got up at 5:30 this morning and met a buddy to go for a 20 mile ride before the heat got to be too bad. It was glorious. I recommend it.
Currently, I'm at 235, as of this morning. 15 pounds down so far.
Went on vacation and ate EVERYTHING. 2pm doughnut? Sure. Cannoli? Why not? 3 pounds of chinese dumplings? BRING IT. Got on the scale when I got home and was depressed for 48 hours.
i've been on two gravel rides and I'm back to my pre-vacation weight, so I reckon the science works.

Been sidelined for the last 2 weeks with a knee injury. Had an X-ray Monday and it’s bursitis, basically tennis elbow of the knee. Rest, ice, compression, elevation. Was super painful for a while but it’s a lot better now, although I still won’t chance a bicycle or peloton ride yet.
What really sucks is getting back to regular exercise after taking a break. After like 3 days I start feeling soft and my motivation plummets.

47Posted this in the other version of this thread. Just had my first PT appointment today and whoa is my ankle/calf weak in my left leg. Could barely do one heal raise on that foot, did 25 on my right foot no problem.

Just took my first non-walking boot steps around the house and it's feeling good, but I'll need some PT to get back to full strength. My calf muscle is totally gone, and my ankle definitely feels weak, but HEY, I don't have the pain I used to have in my foot!

Father's Day weekend: Spartan 21K run with 30 obstacles. This is half marathon distance. Intimidating.
July, for my birthday: Tough Mudder 10+ mile run with 20+ obstacles.
The longest I've ever run is 5K, but I'm beginning work on that. Also, both of my shoulders have hurt for a year straight, but I'm seeing an orthopedic doc next month to see what we can do there.
Clearly, I have some work to do. Onward.

49Last night I had a Jarritos sody pop outside of the window where I'm allowed such things. Hoping I can compensate for it by waiting the relative amount of time to consume calories the following day instead of exercising.

50played a show at NYE in a band where I sing and play guitar at the same time and my ass was WINDED by the end of our 30 minute set. I do try to move around and keep the energy up, and it was ROUGH for me. Definitely time for a change. I've gained EIGHTY (80) pounds since the beginning of 2021.
I had slowly started going back to the gym a few months ago -- holidays derailed that, of course. Need to plan meals a lot better to really bolster this effort.
I've done it before (went from 250 to 160 starting in 2017, ending in 2019), so I Know it can be done, but getting older doesn't help! More annoying than anything else.
