I was a very regular user from 2010 until the bots spoiled it.
I first joined after reading a thread of Steve answering questions on a poker forum. Someone was kind enough to post in that thread about the PRF.
Man I learned SO MUCH from reading threads and posting questions. I also got to put a song on the first PRF / Lake of Fake compilation. That was pretty damned cool.
So hello to you all, and THANK YOU to everyone involved in the Re-Animation of this wonderful place.
Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
42I was an active FM (user name was 'sunlore') a thousand years ago, when I was still in college. No idea how I got here, but it likely had something to do with having way too much time on my hands.
Later on, life got in the way. But I continue to use the board as a resource, and it's great to see so many long-time posters still active. I'm happy it's resurrected.
Claim to fame: FM Greg Norman slept on my floor once.

Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
43I was jimmy two hands on the old forum. I joined in 2005 or 2006 under that name because "Jimbo" had already been taken. The band I was in at the time recorded a 7" at Electrical in 2002 and we mixed an album there in 2004 that was recorded at Key Club with Bill Skibbe, and my online pals from another music forum that had gone silent had mostly migrated here. Didn't start posting as much until I moved to Chicago at the end of 2007. Then I started posting all sorts of annoying asshole shit. Made some pals, started some bands, played some jams. I'm trying to be less of an annoying asshole now.

Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
44Hello, fello weirdos.
Much has changed in Zomland since I last was on here, several years ago. I now live in a tiny town of 2000 on the shore of Lake Superior, after 40 years of living in Minneapolis. Partially due to it being a good financial move as I'm in my 60s, and also because Minneapolis had started to become a real bummer over the past few years. The pandemic really sealed the deal for me. I lived two blocks away from the fires, rioting and damage, my neighborhood looks terrible. They burned down the auto parst store I shopped at regularly, it's still a pile of rubble. Uptown is overrun with bro-box condos, shitty bars, and idiots who spin donuts in the intersections, closing off the streets several nights per week so they can watch imbeciles spinning around in their shitty cars and put it on Youtube. Night after night of hearing whining, overheated, high RPM engines, racing, motorcycle clowns and gunshots got to me. They cut out my catalytic converter right in our driveway. Fave restaurants closed down permanently.
The city may come back, but it's going to take years and I don't have enough left to hang out and see. Anyway, I'm only a half-hour away from our cabin, I can walk to the lake and go fishing, bike everywhere without worrying about idiots running red lights (no traffic lights in this town anyway). All I hear at night are coyotes, owls, foxes and the occasional four-wheeler puttering by. Sure, I'll miss some shows and of course my friends mostly. But there's lots of music, art, and cool people up here. Less than 1/3 of the town voted for Tmurp, lots of old college professor types and old hippies. Huzzah!

45Man, that sounds fantastic. I'm jealous. Should we expect more of a Joe Pera vibe from you now that you live on the shore of Lake Superior?zom-zom wrote: Sat May 29, 2021 6:46 am Hello, fello weirdos.

Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
46Nice to see you again, Zom. We've taken a few remote cabin/cottage trips in pandemic times in both WI and MI near the lake, and if we can solidify our remote working arrangements that may become the life for us too, and I don't think we're alone. Good 5 year goal perhaps.
Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
47I originally came to the site in 2003 to look at recording rates. I browsed the forum and noticed some interesting and smart folks seemed to be contributing. I decided to join and likely diminished the overall quality of the place. I have met a few folks from here in person and most have been very generous, amiable, and intelligent. I still live in the middle of Florida where most folks have an unfortunate affinity for college sports. I was a house and sometimes touring live sound guy for about a decade. I do not have a ponytail. My brother is far more talented and better looking than me. I used to be a scientist but that well ran dry so now I work in software. I play music sometimes like everyone else here. My high school band had a split 7” with Less Than Jake so I have buckets of credibility going back decades. I am also mentioned in at least one Wikipedia page.

Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
48I joined in 2003 a month or two after the forum went up because a friend I worked with at a music instrument retailer asked me if I knew about it. Already being familiar with EA and Albini, I did. Enjoyed the humor and tech stuff for a couple of years as an occasional poster. I drifted away from it for awhile when I lost that job and didn't have computer access at work anymore. Got back in around 2008. I'd already known many of the PRF regulars outside of the forum separately, and some of them finally encouraged me to start attending the IRL functions starting with the 2011 BBQ. Glad I did.
Re: Introductions: How did I get here?
49I started in 2003. I used to post a lot more back in ye olden tymes. Under my own name at first. Then I changed it a few years later to tell an embarrassing story about something terrible that happened to me, and the late great FM Warmowski called me on that shit within about 10 minutes. But the new account, which was an old alias (which is how Warmowski knew), is what I ended up going with. I think it's been a few years since I've been on this doohicky.
