Anyhow, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere but the idea of changing the filibuster seems interesting to me. Progressives have rightly pointed out that the filibuster is crippling a potentially fruitful time, but I wonder why no one talks about how any parlimentary power given to the majority in the legislature, will inevitably be used against them when they're in the minority.

RE: FMPennington’s point #2, I think that this is one of the more frustrating points to me overall, the perfect v. good fallacy. The child tax credit is a great, great example of accepting progress without achieving every progressive goal. For all the “Biden is the same as Trump because he likes bombs/rich people/big pharma, etc” folks, this is what happens when you work to elect the better candidate and abandon the easy false equivalencies between red and blue.
For all of the really dumb shit that Dems do, the CTC is pretty great across the spectrum.

Bartending rules of thumb, courtesy of me:
*Never, EVER, discuss politics at a bar. Not as a bartender to a customer, not as a bartender to another staff. I make sure every TV screen we have is on some sort of sportsball network. I've even shut down political "discussions" fast becoming arguments between customers.

People by and large come out to get away from political and religious bullshit, and I'm more than willing to accommodate. Same can perhaps be said of music forums.

We would have lost a lot of the best writing on the forum if we'd had this rule. I've learned a massive amount of history, theory, narratives, rhetorical mischief, and other political thought paraphernalia from this forum in its previous incarnation. Back when I had faster temper and fingers, I enjoyed the arguments and made a few friends IRL through them, alongside those made through chats on art and living a good life.
Most political threads are obvious from the title and therefore easy to avoid. This one was always going to be catnip to trolls and bores, but I salute FM jfv*'s intention in setting it up. I realise it is quite tempting to enter threads that you know are likely to irritate you (at least, it is for me - I've deleted and later restored Twitter from my phone three times in the time of Covid), but so long as someone isn't obnoxiously spamming resolutely un-political threads with their rants, I'd be happy to see a proliferation of threads arguing about whatever terrible or great subject people want to debate.

I don't think phrasing that question in yes/no terms is entirely fair. When I pay to see a performance, I generally know what I'm getting into. If it's an act I haven't seen before and they wax politic for awhile, I guess it's on me whether to stick around or not. I think moderation is the key. I'm paying to see a performance and hopefully support the bottom line of somebody making their living doing what they love. And if they have a point to make about something, then go right on. But there's also a point when maybe it's time to zip it and get back to music. I'm not saying music should be devoid of whatever politics the musician is into either, but that's the craft.
Also, I'm referring to what can largely be seen by many as a break from seemingly nonstop political digression. It's probably not apples to apples to compare somebody on a stage going off about something to somebody at a bar demanding that somebody turn one of the TVs onto Fox News (or CNN, or MSNBC, or whatev).
