I like cheese.
This thread was always going to be a dumpster fire.

Correct, and was dealt with straight away by the good ol' foe list, so if people could stop quoting these cunts that'd be great. Ta.brephophagist wrote: Tue Jul 27, 2021 12:28 am No offense intended toward y’all trying to be generous, but that shit was blatantly obvious from the first post.
EA political thread rank!jason from volo wrote: Tue Jul 27, 2021 6:58 am Forum novices like me could benefit from an onboarding course from all of you that have been dealing with how best to run a forum for 17+ years. Like a "lessons learned". I know there is sort of a thread already for this. If there's any more advice that you think would be of benefit, you know, so we don't inadvertently end up on your foe lists for no other reason than just being stupid... might be helpful.
Do you feel that musicians should refrain from talking about politics when they perform live?kicker_of_elves wrote: Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:33 am
People by and large come out to get away from political and religious bullshit, and I'm more than willing to accommodate. Same can perhaps be said of music forums.
We would have lost a lot of the best writing on the forum if we'd had this rule. I've learned a massive amount of history, theory, narratives, rhetorical mischief, and other political thought paraphernalia from this forum in its previous incarnation. Back when I had faster temper and fingers, I enjoyed the arguments and made a few friends IRL through them, alongside those made through chats on art and living a good life.kicker_of_elves wrote:People by and large come out to get away from political and religious bullshit, and I'm more than willing to accommodate. I don't think phrasing that question in yes/no terms is entirely fair. When I pay to see a performance, I generally know what I'm getting into. If it's an act I haven't seen before and they wax politic for awhile, I guess it's on me whether to stick around or not. I think moderation is the key. I'm paying to see a performance and hopefully support the bottom line of somebody making their living doing what they love. And if they have a point to make about something, then go right on. But there's also a point when maybe it's time to zip it and get back to music. I'm not saying music should be devoid of whatever politics the musician is into either, but that's the craft.zircona1 wrote: Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:29 amDo you feel that musicians should refrain from talking about politics when they perform live?kicker_of_elves wrote: Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:33 am

Most political threads are obvious from the title and therefore easy to avoid. This one was always going to be catnip to trolls and bores, but I salute FM jfv*'s intention in setting it up. I realise it is quite tempting to enter threads that you know are likely to irritate you (at least, it is for me - I've deleted and later restored Twitter from my phone three times in the time of Covid), but so long as someone isn't obnoxiously spamming resolutely un-political threads with their rants, I'd be happy to see a proliferation of threads arguing about whatever terrible or great subject people want to debate.
*=am amused to report my computer tried to re-initial you as "kfc".
