True. Didn't think of this till you pointed it out, but absolutely. It's like the antithesis of the pop culture, celebrity, inverse cock rock, and nth-wave feminism of her stuff from Goo and later. The Kim songs on Confusion Is Sex are fucking terrifying. "Shaking Hell" and "Protect Me You" are seriously eerie. And she sounds downright possessed on that Stooges cover.

The early Kim material is often some strong shit. To me, "Pacific Coast Highway" or "Early American" are far more interesting and less obvious explorations of men's dark sides than say, "Swimsuit Issue" or "Kool Thing." But they're also perhaps harder to listen to and less explicitly "relatable" for many people.

Hey what about Made In USA?

I voted EVOL. BMR is a very close second. That whole run from BMR to Sister via The Whitey Album and Made in USA is incredible. The recently released Spinhead Sessions (proto Made in USA) is wonderful. (Not so down on DN apart from a couple of songs.)

I love the first EP the most, I think. I love all SY albums, incl. major label stuff. Probably my favorite band.

Have you guys heard the Live in Chicago '85 album? Definitely check that one out if you like mid-80s Sonic Youth. Decent sound and great performances.
