I got to see Henry Threadgill here at Jazzfest Saturday (also got to see his Artists' Talk the night before). Massively inspiring stuff for me.
They broadcast his set (a commission for a collaboration between Zooid and a European group) on the radio here and it's archived for a month:
It's right at the beginning of the first stream, "Konzerthighlights vom Jazzfest Berlin - Teil 1".
More about the project:
The Creative Music Universe of Henry Threadgill: Zooid meets Potsa Lotsa XL
Rad. There was an interview with him linked on here somewhere between 2018-20 (likely no longer there) that was one of the better music interviews I've ever read. I want to get that book.

I picked it up but have only jumped around a little in it so far.
You might be thinking of that three part Ethan Iverson interview? If I remember correctly, that one was so great...I believe part two on Vietnam was also available as audio.
There's also an uncut Wire interview online I think.

This shit is great. It's like if Pharoah Sanders was a First Nation woman.

I've been listening to Mabe Fratti's latest throughout this year. It's a good balance of experimental and accessible, and her cello sometimes resembles Arthur Russell's. Here's a more 'rocked out' version of her band:

I've been loving the new record Prime by Christian McBride's New Jawn, which I was impressed as I didn't realize McBride could go this hard (Nasheet Waits aside), see below their Tiny Desk Concert

Also, haven't seen The Flower School by Bill Orcutt / Chris Corsano / Zoh Amba mentioned yet, one of my favorite records this yr, even by the current high standards set by recent Orcutt albums this one in particular I think is great, Amba kind blows my in mind spots
Natural Information Society, basically the best thing going right now, (they actually record at this studio even!)
Also highly recommend the recent-ish Jeff Parker Quartet record, in the realm of all great, stoney West Coast two-fers (inset any "...Live at the Lighthouse" you wish)
If Eremite puts it out, it is worth investigating imho

The first half meanders a bit IMO but the second side really cooks. And yeah, I saw the Amba/Corsano duo a week ago and was in awe. At one point she was playing the sax with her left hand and mashing the piano keys with her right. All from a tiny Appalachian person who discovered Albert Ayler on youtube 8 years ago. Nuts.

I got to see Orcutt/Corsano/Amba trio in Chicago last week and it was nothing short of phenomenal. Apparently only the 2nd time all three had played together (the first time was the recording session that became the LP.)
Truly a fantastic gig, lovely to see Corsano holding the whole thing together in his own way. Bill and Zoh really compliment each other well and both know when they should step back to let the other really take off.
